  • Page 6 7. Slowly turn the Exhaust Valve ccunter-clockwise with your thumb and index finger to an exhaust rate of 2 to 3 mmHg per second as seen on the dial. If the deflation rate (exhaust rate) is too fast, it will not read you blood pressure correctly or may not read at all.

Arterial blood pressure is constantly changing during the course of the cardiac cycle. The highest pressure in the cycle is called the SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE; the lowest is the DIASTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE.
