Safe Handling ofGasoline
To avoid p ersonal injury o rproperty damage use extreme care in
handling gasoline. Gasoline isextremely flammable and the vapors are
explosive. Serious personal injury c an occur when g asoline isspilled
onyourself oryour clothes which c an ignite. Wash y our skin and
change clothes immediately.
,, Use only anapproved gasoline container.
,, Extinguish allcigarettes, cigars, pipes a nd other sources
ofignition.
,, Never fuel machine indoors.
,, Never remove gas cap oradd fuel w hile t he engine ishot
orrunning.
,, Allow engine tocool atleast two minutes before refueling.
,, Never over fillfuel t ank. Fill t ank tonomore t han 1/2 i nch
below b ottom offiller n eck t oprovide space forfuel
expansion.
,, Replace gasoline cap and tighten securely.
,, Ifgasoline isspilled, wipe itoff t he engine and equipment.
Move m achine toanother area. Wait 5minutes before
starting the engine.
,, Never store t he machine orfuel c ontainer inside w here
there i sanopen f lame, spark orpilot light ( e.g. furnace,
water heater, space h eater, clothes dryer etc.).
,, Allow machine tocool atleast 5minutes before storing.
,, Never fillcontainers inside avehicle oronatruck o rtrailer
bed with aplastic l iner. Always place c ontainers onthe
ground away f rom your v ehicle before filling.
,, Ifpossible, remove gas-powered equipment from the truck
ortrailer and refuel itonthe ground. Ifthis isnot p ossible,
then refuel such equipment onatrailer with aportable
container, rather than from agasoline dispenser nozzle.
,, Keep t he nozzle incontact with the rim ofthe fuel tank or
container opening atall t imes u ntil fueling iscomplete. Do
not u se anozzle lock-open device.
OPERATION

housingor chuteassembly.Contactwith the rotatingpartscan
amputatehandsand feet.
,, Theauger/impeller control leveris a safetydevice.Neverbypass
its operation.Doingso makesthe machineunsafeand may cause
personalinjury.
,, Thecontrol leversmustoperateeasily in bothdirectionsand
automaticallyreturnto the disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
,, Neveroperatewith a missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keep
all safety devicesin placeand working.
,, Neverrun an engine indoorsor in a poorlyventilatedarea. Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessand deadlygas.
,, Do notoperatemachinewhileunder the influenceof alcoholor
drugs.
,, Mufflerandengine becomehotand can causea burn.Do not
touch.Keepchildrenaway.
,, Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingon or crossinggravel
surfaces.Stayalertfor hidden hazardsor traffic.
,, Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionand whileoperatingon
slopes.
,, Planyoursnow-throwing patternto avoiddischargetowards
windows,walls,cars etc.Thus, avoidingpossibleproperty
damageor personalinjurycaused bya ricochet.
,, Neverdirect dischargeat children,bystanders and petsor allow
anyonein front of the machine.
,, Donot overloadmachinecapacityby attemptingto clearsnowat
too fast of a rate.
,, Neveroperatethis machinewithoutgood visibilityor light. Always
be sureof yourfootingand keepa firm holdon the handles.Walk,
neverrun.
,, Disengagepowerto the auger/impeller whentransportingor not
in use.
,, Neveroperatemachineat high transportspeedson slippery
surfaces.Lookdownand behindand usecare whenbackingup.
,, If the machineshouldstart to vibrateabnormally, s top the engine,
disconnectthe spark plugwire and groundit againstthe engine.
Inspectthoroughlyfor damage.Repairanydamagebefore
startingand operating.
,, Disengage all controlleversand stop enginebeforeyou leave
the operatingposition(behindthe handles).Wait untilthe auger/
impellercomesto a completestop beforeuncloggingthe chute
assembly,makingany adjustments, o r inspections.
,, Neverput yourhand in the dischargeor collectoropenings.
Alwaysusethe clean-outtool providedto unclogthedischarge
opening.Donot unclogchuteassemblywhileengine is running.
Shutoff engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingparts
havestoppedbeforeunclogging.
,, Useonly attachments and accessoriesapprovedby the manufac-
turer (e.g.wheelweights,tire chains,cabsetc.).
,, Whenstartingengine,pull cord slowlyuntilresistanceis felt, then
pull rapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord(kickback)will pull
handand arm towardenginefasterthan youcan let go.Broken
bones,fractures,bruisesor sprains couldresult.
