❒ Unclamp the side clamps, and remove
the element from the air cleaner case.
If it appears to be dirty, replace it with
a new one.

SPARK PLUGS

For Nickel spark plugs (traditional type):
You should inspect spark plugs periodi-
cally for carbon deposits. When carbon
accumulates on a spark plug, a strong
spark may not be produced. Remove car-
bon deposits with a wire or pin and adjust
the spark plug gap.
To access the spark plugs:

1. Remove the air cleaner casing, as pre-
viously described in the "Air cleaner"
chapter of this section.
2. If necessary, disconnect the fitting (1)
by pressing the release lever.
3. Remove the bolts.
4. Remove the ignition coils.
IMPORTANT
❒ While removing the ignition coils, do
not pull the cable. This may damage it.
❒ When servicing iridium/platinum plugs
(plug type with thin central electrode)
do not touch the brittle central elec-
trode as it could be damaged.
