Functional Keys
The remaining keys, numbers 30-32, 34-39, and 44-46 con-
trol the various functions of the card punch.
-
30. Numeric (Numeric Shift): This key shifts the combina-
tion keyboard into numeric shift or modeas longasit is held
down. It is normally used to punch numbersin an otherwise
alphabetic field.
31. Alpha (Alphabetic Shift): This key shifts the combina-
tion keyboardinto alphabetic shift or modeas longasit is
held down. It is normally used to punchletters in an other-
wise numeric field. When duplication is being performed in
numeric shift, pressing this key permits automatic spacing
over blank columns.
32. Dup (Duplicate): When a manualfield containsidenti-
cal information for two or morecards, this field can be
duplicated at 18 or 20 columnsper second on the cards that
follow. With the machine under program control, one de-
pression of the dup keyinitiates the operation. Duplication
continues until the end offield definition.
Without program control, duplication occurs at the rate of
9 or 10 columnsper second and occurs only as long as the
key is held down. This allows the operator precise column
control in a card correction or make-over application.
Encountering a space during duplication of numericfields
locks the keyboard. The error reset key unlocksthe key-
board and permits keying of the space, substitute data, or
release. The alpha shift key can also be used to get over the
