Check the fluid level at each engine oil change period. To
make an accurate fluid level check:
1.
Drive vehicle several miles, making frequent starts and
stops, to bring transm ission up to norm al operating
tem perature (approxim ately 180-190° F).
2.
Park vehicle on a level surface.
3.
Place selector level in "P ark" an d leave engine running.
4.
Rem ove dipstick and w ipe clean.
5.
R einsert dipstick until cap seats.
6.
Rem ove dipstick and n o te reading.
If oil level is at or below the ADD m ark on the dipstick, oil
should be added as necessary. One p int raises th e level from
ADD to FULL.
Do not overfill.
U nder norm al driving conditions, th e transm ission fluid
should be changed every 24,000 miles. If the vehicle is driven
extensively in heavy city traffic during h o t w eather, or is used
to pull a trailer, change fluid every 12,000 miles. Likewise,
operators o f trucks in com m ercial use where the engine idles
for long periods, should change fluid every 12,000 miles.
