    Important Safety Precautions Read these guidelines before using your wireless phone. Failure to comply with them may be dangerous or illegal. In idle mode, allows you to access your favourite menu options directly (for more information on shortcuts, see page 92). In the menu facility, returns to the previous menu level and selects the current menu respectively.

    Display Display Layout The display comprises of three areas.   • Page 13 Your Phone Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal strength. Appears when you are out of your home area and have registered with a different network; for example, when travelling in other countries.

    Icon Description (continued) Appears when the mute mode is active. Shows the level of your battery. The more bars you see, the more power you have left. Backlight The display and keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When you press any key, the backlight turns on and remains on for a given period of time, depending on the Back Light menu option (Menu 4.6.2).

    Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services available and so on. Important! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting or removing the card.

Make sure that the cut corner is top right and the gold contacts of the card face into the phone. Note : When you need to remove the SIM card, slide it, as shown below, and take it out of the holder.

    A travel adapter is provided with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details. The phone can be used while the battery is charging, but this will cause the battery to charge more slowly.

When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter from the power outlet and from the phone by pressing the buttons on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.     Answering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and shows the incoming call animation. If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number or name, if stored in your phonebook, is displayed. Note : While the phone is ringing, you can mute the ring tone.

    Phonebook You can store phone numbers and their corres- ponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 500 numbers in the phone memory. The SIM card and phone memories, although physically separate, are used as if they were a single entity, called the phonebook.

    Messages The SMS (Short Message Service) function is a network service and may not be supported by your network. Messages can be sent by text, fax, E-mail and paging messaging systems, provided that these services are supported by your network. To send text messages by phone, you must obtain the number of the SMS centre from your service provider.
