    If you do not answer, the AFX-400 automatically routes the call. Your AFX-400 is easy to operate and preset to work for most installations, and you can easily customize its operation to suit your needs. Its built-in features are designed to work with the distinctive ringing, Caller ID, and voice mail services provided by most phone companies.

    How does my AFX-400 know that it’s a fax machine call- ing? When the AFX-400 answers a call (office mode) it listens for a fax alert (CNG) tone. The CNG tone is a beep every three sec- onds that most fax machines send to alert the receiving fax machine.

    TROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you to have any problems with your AFX-400 Home Fax Switch, but if you do, the following suggestions might help. Problem The power indicator does not light. The power indicator flashes when the AFX-400 is not in use.

    Modifying or tampering with the AFX-400’s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your AFX-400 is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack sto re for assistance.
