POST

POST (Power On Self-Test) is the self-diagnostic program stored in the CPU blade.
When you power on the CPU blade, the system automatically runs POST to check the motherboard, DIMM, and
processor (CPU). POST also displays the start-up message of utilities, while in progress.
Usually, you do not need to check the contents of POST. However, check messages displayed at POST in
the following cases.
When you use the CPU blade for the first time.
When the CPU blade appears to fail.
When any error message is displayed

1.5.1 POST Execution Flow

The following describes the progress of POST in the chronological order.
1. When the server is turned on, POST starts running, and displays messages indicating initialization of
memory and PCI devices. After messages are displayed, the
LOGO appears.
2. If Enabled is specified for Password On Boot in Security menu of SETUP, you will be prompted to
enter password after the logo is displayed. If you enter the incorrect password three times consecutively,
POST aborts. (You can no longer proceed.) In this case, power off the server, and power it on.
3. If the <Esc> key is pressed, the logo disappears and the details of POST are displayed. These
messages let you know the installed CPU or capacity of mounted memory.
Do not make unnecessary key entries or perform mouse operations while POST
Important
is in progress.
Powering on the server, after you installed or removed an optional PCI card, may
display the message that indicates incorrect board configuration and suspend
POST.
In such a case, press the <F1> key to continue POST. Board configuration can be
made using the utility described later.
Note
The keyboard becomes available after the logo is displayed.
The screen may be switched to black (nothing is displayed) several times while the
initialization message is being displayed, however, it is not the problem.
The initialization message may not appear depending on setting of BIOS SETUP, or
when optional VGA controller is connected.
The initialization message does not appear on Console Redirection screen of serial
port.
Important
Do not set a password before OS is installed.
Tips
If Quiet Boot is Disabled from Boot menu in BIOS SETUP, the logo is not displayed and
POST execution result is displayed.
