Turn Off Wireless When Flying
Turn off your wireless service before boarding any aircraft. To prevent
possible interference with aircraft systems, the U.S. Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) regulations require you to have permission from
a crew member to use your device's wireless service while the plane
is on the ground.
If you have your wireless service turned off, you can use your Kindle for
reading once a crew member has said it is okay to use electronic devices.
Be Careful Around Other Electronic Devices
Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from radio frequency
(RF) signals. However, RF signals may affect improperly installed or
inadequately shielded electronic operating systems or entertainment
systems. If in doubt, check with the manufacturer. Consult the
manufacturer of any personal medical devices (such as pacemakers
and hearing aids) to determine if they are adequately shielded from
external RF signals.
Watch for Signs
There are some places where radio signals could constitute a hazard.
For example, health care facilities, construction sites, and so forth.
If you are not sure, look around for signs indicating that two-way radios
or cell phones should be turned off.
