OSx Station Basics
The following restrictions apply to the execution of custom programs.
Graphics The system does not allow operators to edit, validate, or delete
the same graphic file (command form, graphic) simultaneously from
multiple stations.
When an operator edits a graphic that has been validated previously, the
system copies the file from the directory of validated files into the directory
of saved files. When the operator saves and validates the graphic, the
system places it in the directory of validated files on all OSx stations and
the file is removed from the directory of saved files on all stations.
Therefore, if an operator on another OSx station had previously made
changes to this graphic, but did not validate the graphic, his changes are
lost when an operator on another station validates the graphic.
For other types of files (such as animation maps, bitmaps, text files, or help
files), operators need to be aware that the same file can be edited on
multiple stations simultaneously. However, operators at separate stations
cannot attempt to delete or validate the same file at the same time. During
validation of these file types, the system places a copy of the validated file in
the directories of saved and validated files on all stations.
You may observe some delay in graphic validation in the Operate state
when another OSx station is synchronizing. To see if this is the cause of the
delay, check Network Status, which shows when stations are synchronizing.
Validation completes shortly after synchronization finishes.
Reports The following rules apply to reports.
Scheduled reports only execute on a primary that is a supervisory
station. The report schedules are located on all supervisory stations, so
reports still execute when one supervisory station replaces another in
the primary role.
An operator can preview reports on any OSx station.
If an operator attempts to do a role change while a lengthy report is
executing, the role change fails after approximately a minute. In this
event, wait a minute or two and then try the role change again.
Scheduled reports do not execute while a role change is in progress, nor
do they execute after the role change is complete until the next
scheduled time or event.
