10.0 Troubleshooting HVBS-56M Band Saw

10.1 Mechanical and electrical problems

Symptom
Motor will not start.
Motor will not start, or
motor stalls, resulting
in blown fuse or tripped
breaker.
Motor overheats.
Machine slows when
operating.
Loud, repetitive noise
coming from machine.
* WARNING: Some corrections may require a qualified electrician.
Possible Cause
Low voltage.
Open circuit in motor or loose
connection.
Too many tools running on one
circuit.
Short circuit in line cord or plug.
Short circuit in motor or loose
connections.
Incorrect fuses or circuit breakers in
power line.
Motor overloaded.
Air circulation through motor is
restricted.
Excessive feed pressure.
Belt loose.
Pulley setscrews are missing or
loose.
Motor fan is hitting the cover.
V-belt is defective.

9.2 Additional servicing

Any additional servicing on the band saw should be
performed by an authorized service representative.
Correction *
Check power line for proper voltage.
Inspect all lead connections on motor for
loose or open connections.
Reduce number of tools connected to
circuit.
Inspect cord or plug for damaged insulation
and shorted wires.
Inspect all connections on motor for loose
or shorted terminals or worn insulation.
Install correct fuses or circuit breakers.
Reduce load on motor: increase speed or
decrease feed pressure.
Clean motor fan with compressed air to
restore normal air circulation.
Adjust spring tension to reduce feed
pressure, or increase speed using belt
adjustment.
Tighten belt.
Inspect setscrews. Replace or tighten if
necessary.
Tighten fan or shim cover.
Replace V-belt.
