Setting Option
Description
Choose a flash mode to suit your desired flash
shooting.
[E-TTL II flash metering] is the standard
mode of EX-series Speedlites that can fire
automatically.
Flash Mode
Use [Manual flash] mode if you will decide the
[Flash output level] of the flash unit yourself.
For details on other flash modes, refer to the
instruction manual of a flash compatible with
those modes.
Enables wireless flash shooting with multiple flash
units. When shooting with multiple flashes, you can
also configure the radio channel, optical channel,
Wireless Func.
and master flash firing. For details, refer to the
instruction manual of flash units compatible with
wireless flash shooting.
With flash units that have a zooming flash head,

you can set the flash coverage. Normally, choose
(flash coverage)
[AUTO] to have the camera automatically set the
flash coverage to match the lens focal length.
Change the timing of the flash and shutter release
as follows.

]: The flash fires immediately after the
shutter opens.
[
]: The flash fires immediately before the
second curtain closes. If the shutter speed is

1/100 sec. or faster, first-curtain synchronization

is used automatically even if [Second-curtain
synchronization] is set.

]: The flash can be used at all shutter
speeds. Especially effective when shooting
portraits using fill flash, to give priority to the
aperture setting.
Setting Option
Description
Enables adjustment of exposure compensation
at the moment the flash fires. For details, refer
to the instruction manual of the flash unit. If flash

[Built-in flash settings] is not available when an external flash is
attached.
Information displayed and available setting items vary depending
on the type of flash unit, current flash mode, flash Custom
Function settings, and other factors. For details on the functions
available with your flash unit, refer to the instruction manual of the
flash unit.
With an EX-series Speedlite not compatible with flash function
settings, only [Flash Exp. Comp] can be adjusted. ([Shutter
synchronization] can also be set for some EX-series Speedlites.)
