ENGINE PROBLEMS
Engine Will Not Start
1.Check control positions.
2. Check fuel.
3. Remove and inspect
spark plug.
4. Take mower to an autho-
rized Honda servicing
dealer, or refer to shop
manual.
Loss of Power
1. Check throttle position.
2. Check grass height.
3. Check under cutter hous-
ing.
4. Check air filter.
5. Check fuel.
6. Take mower to an autho-
rized Honda servicing
dealer, or refer to shop
manual.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING

Possible Cause
Fuel valve OFF.
Throttle lever in wrong posi-
tion.
Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; mower stored
without treating or draining
gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plug wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Fuel filter clogged, carbure-
tor malfunction, ignition mal-
function, valves stuck, etc.
Possible Cause
Throttle not set to HIGH.
Grass too tall to cut.
Cutter housing clogged.
Air filter clogged.
Bad fuel; mower stored
without treating or draining
gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Fuel filter clogged, carbure-
tor malfunction, ignition mal-
function, valves stuck, etc.
Correction
Turn fuel valve ON (p. 24).
Move throttle lever to
CHOKE position, unless
the engine is warm (p. 25).
Refuel (p. 20).
Drain fuel tank and carbu-
retor (p. 41).
Refuel with fresh gasoline
(p. 20).
Clean, adjust or replace
spark plug (p. 50).
Dry and reinstall spark
plug. Start engine with
throttle lever in HIGH posi-
tion.
Replace or repair faulty
components as necessary.
Correction
Move throttle to HIGH (p.
25).
Raise cutting height (p.
23), cut narrower swath (p.
35), or cut more frequently.
Clean out cutter housing
(p. 39).
Clean or replace air filter
(p. 49).
Drain fuel tank and carbu-
retor (p. 41).
Refuel with fresh gasoline
(p. 20).
Replace or repair faulty
components as necessary.
