Pull the retainer (1) upwards to the
N
rear, tilt air filter in direction of rear
handle and lift it away.
Always replace damaged filters.

Versions with fleece filter and felt
prefilter

Separate the felt prefilter (1) from
N
the fleece filter (2) and clean – see
below.
Cleaning the air filter
Knock the filter out on the palm of
N
your hand or blow it clear with
compressed air from the inside
outwards.
If filter is caked with dirt:
Wash the filter in STIHL special
N
cleaner (special accessory) or a
clean, non-flammable solution (e.g.
warm soapy water) and then dry.

NOTICE
Do not use a brush to clean the fleece
filter.
The felt element protects the fleece filter
and prolongs its useful life. It should
therefore be replaced at more frequent
intervals than the fleece filter.
Installing the air filter
Push the felt prefilter over the fleece
N
filter and press it home at all four
corners – only versions with fleece
filter and felt prefilter.

Engage the tabs (1) in the
N
recesses (2).
Swing the air filter in the direction of
N
the filter housing and lock with
retainer.
Fit the shroud.

Adjusting the Carburetor

Basic information
The carburetor comes from the factory
with a standard setting.
The carburetor has been adjusted for
optimum performance and fuel
efficiency in all operating states.
The adjusting screws on this carburetor
can only be set within narrow limits.
Standard setting
Switch off the engine
N
Check the air filter – clean or replace
N
it if necessary
Check the spark arresting screen in
N
the muffler (present only in some
countries) – clean or replace it if
necessary
L
Turn the high speed screw (H)
N
counterclockwise as far as possible
(max. 3/4 turn)
Carefully turn the low speed
N
adjusting screw (L) clockwise as far
as possible – then turn it back 1 turn
