Troubleshooting

General troubleshooting procedures

Many problems can be resolved by starting with the following:
Verify no loose connections (on page 53) exist.
Search for and review any existing service notifications (on page 53).
Power cycle the chassis

Loose connections

The first step to troubleshooting any issue is to verify that no loose connections exist. Verify the following:
Be sure all power cords are securely connected.
Be sure all cables are properly routed and securely connected for all external and internal
components.
Remove and check all data and power cables for damage. Be sure no cables have bent pins or
damaged connectors.
Be sure each device is properly seated. Avoid bending or flexing circuit boards when reseating
components.
If a device has latches, be sure they are completely closed and locked. If screws are integrated into
the latch, be sure the screws are tightened properly.
If problems continue to occur, remove and reinstall each device, checking the connectors and
sockets for bent pins or other damage.

Service notifications

Service notifications are created to provide solutions for known issues with HPE ProLiant servers. Check
to see if your ProLiant server issue is covered by an existing service notification.
To search for service notifications, see the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center
(http://www.hpe.com/info/hpesc). Enter the product name or number, and then click Go. Select
Advisories, Bulletins & Notices. The complete list of documents is displayed.

Power cycle the HPE Apollo a6000 Chassis

Many issues that require troubleshooting will require that the power be removed and re-applied to the
chassis. The preferred method for power cycling the chassis is to turn off and on the AC power input to the
power shelf. Since multiple chassis are often connected to one power shelf, this will result in power being
removed from all chassis attached to the power shelf.
To power cycle a single chassis:
Power down all servers
1.

server" on page 20).
Chassis" on page 53).
