The motorcycle's electronic cir-
cuitry monitors the data stored in
the radio key through a ring an-
tenna incorporated in the radio
lock. The engine management
system does not enable engine
starting until the radio key has
been recognized as "authorized"
for your motorcycle.
z
A further key attached to
the same ring as the igni-
tion key used to start the engine
could "irritate" the electronics,
in which case the enabling sig-
nal for starting is not issued. The
EWS
warning is shown in the
multifunction display.
Always store further vehicle keys
separately from the ignition key.
If you lose a radio key, you can
have it disabled by your autho-
rized BMW Motorrad retailer.
When having a key disabled you
should also bring all of the mo-
torcycle's remaining keys with
you.
The engine can no longer be
started using a disabled radio
key; however, a disabled radio
key can be enabled again.
Emergency and spare keys are
only available through an autho-
rized BMW Motorrad retailer. As
the radio keys are part of an in-
tegrated security system, the re-
tailer is under an obligation to
check your legitimacy.
