Left-Side Panel Components

The following is a brief description of your LIFEBOOK notebook's left-side components.
Smart Card Slot
A dedicated Smart Card slot is provided on your notebook. Smart Cards are the same size and shape as credit cards,
but they contain an integrated microprocessor chip. See "Smart Card Reader" on page 70. In order to use the
embedded Smart Card Reader, you must purchase third-party software for installation. Note that on certain
configurations of this model, the Smart Card slot is replaced with an ExpressCard slot.
USB 3.0 Ports
The USB 3.0 ports allow you to connect Universal Serial Bus devices. USB 3.0 transfers data at up to 5 Gbps and is
backward-compatible with USB 2.0 devices, which transfer data at up to 480 Mbps. See "Universal Serial Bus Ports"
on page 75. Note that the USB 3.0 port closest to the front of the system also offers Anytime USB Charge feature.
Anytime USB Charge ports allow you to charge an external device even when the system is shut down.
