    Preparing the Camera Attaching the camera strap Pull the strap tight so that it does not come loose. Charging the battery The battery charger included (AC cable or plug-in type) differs depending on the region where you purchased the camera. If you received a plug-in type battery charger, plug it directly into an AC outlet. Example: AC cable type battery charger Lithium ion battery Battery charger AC cable AC outlet 10 EN Battery comes partially charged. Before use, be sure to charge the battery until the charging indicator goes off (for approx. longest 2 hours). If the charge indicator does not light or it blinks, the battery may not be inserted correctly or the battery or the charger may be broken. For details on the battery and the charger, see “Battery and charger” (p. 47). When to charge the battery Charge the battery when the error message shown below appears.
  • Page 11 Loading the battery and the xD-Picture Card™ (sold separately) into the camera Do not insert anything other than an xD-Picture Card or the microSD Attachment into the camera. Battery/card compartment cover Battery lock knob Insert the battery by putting in the marked side first, with the the battery lock knob. Insert the battery while sliding the battery lock knob in the direction of the arrow. To remove the battery, unlock the battery lock knob by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. Turn off the camera before opening or closing the battery/card compartment cover. When using the camera, be sure to close the battery/card compartment cover. Index area Insert the card straight until it clicks into place. Do not touch the contact area on the card. Check the seal of the battery/card compartment cover to see that there is no foreign material (dirt, dust or sand), cracks or flaws.     Using a microSD card/ microSDHC card (sold separately) A microSD card/microSDHC card (hereinafter both will be referred to as “The microSD card”) is also compatible with this camera using the microSD Attachment. “Using a microSD Attachment” (p. 50) Insert the microSD card into the Attachment. Insert the microSD Attachment into the camera. To remove the microSD card Pull the microSD card straight out.     Shooting, Playback, and Erasing Shooting with optimum aperture value and shutter speed (P mode) In this mode, automatic camera shooting can be used while also allowing changes to a wide range of other shooting menu functions, such as exposure compensation, white balance and so on as needed. For details on the functions that can be adjusted, see “Menus for Shooting Functions” on page 24. Press the n button to turn on the camera.     Using Shooting Modes The shooting mode changes in the order of P, G, h, s, A each time the K button is pressed. By switching to other shooting mode, most settings set in other than P mode will be changed to the default settings of the respective shooting mode. Shooting with automatic settings (G mode) According to the scene, the camera automatically selects the optimal shootings mode from [PORTRAIT]/[LANDSCAPE]/ [NIGHT+PORTRAIT]/[SPORT]/[MACRO]. This is a fully automatic mode that allows the user to take pictures using the best mode for the shooting scene simply by pressing the shutter button. The settings in [B] (CAMERA MENU) are not available in G mode. Press the K button a few times to set G. G mode indicator The indicator changes to the icon for the shooting mode selected by the camera. ● Press the shutter button halfway down or press the g button to check which shooting mode the camera has automatically selected.

    Using Shooting Functions Using the zoom Pressing the zoom button adjusts the shooting range.     Adjusting the brightness (Exposure compensation) The standard brightness (appropriate exposure) set by the camera based on the shooting mode (except for G) can be adjusted brighter or darker to obtain the desired shot. Shooting close-ups (Macro shooting) This function enables the camera to focus and shoot subjects at close distances. Press the & button.     Increasing the brightness of the monitor (Backlight boost) Press the L button in shooting mode. The monitor becomes brighter. If there is no operation for 10 seconds, the previous brightness resumes. Changing the shooting information display The screen information display can be changed to best fit the situation, such as creating a precise composition using the grid display.     Using Playback Features Index view and close-up view Index view enables quick selection of a desired image. Close-up view (up to 10x magnification) allows checking of image details. Press the zoom button.   • Page 26 Creating panoramic images [PANORAMA] B CAMERA MENU  PANORAMA Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS Master 2 software on the provided CD-ROM. The focus, exposure (p. 21), zoom position (p. 20), and [WB] (p. 25) are locked at the first frame. The flash (p. 20) is fixed at $ (FLASH OFF) mode. 1 Use abcd to select the direction that the frames are combined. 2 Press the shutter button to take the first frame, and then compose the second shot. ● Compose the shot using the guide frame so that the two adjacent frames overlap. 3 Repeat Step 2 until the number of required frames are taken, and then press the o button when done. When the g mark is displayed, you cannot continue shooting any further. Panorama shooting is possible for up to 10 frames. Refer to the OLYMPUS Master 2 help guide for details on how to make panorama images.  EN Selecting sound setting for movies [R] B CAMERA MENU  R K : P h s Submenu 2 While recording a movie with sound, only digital zoom is available. To use the optical zoom, set [R] (movies) to [OFF]. The sound recorded with the movies cannot be played back on this camera. To listen to the sound, connect to a TV or PC. K : A Application No sound is recorded.

Press the shutter button FACE DETECT halfway down, and when the face is in focus, the green AF target mark appears. The orange target mark indicates that the area other than the face is in focus). This enables you to compose the shot without worrying about the iESP focusing position. The camera finds the subject to focus on and automatically adjusts the focus.

Playing back automatically [G SLIDESHOW] G SLIDESHOW To start a slideshow To start the slideshow, press the o button. To stop the slideshow, press the o button or the  button. During the slideshow, recorded sound cannot be played back on this camera. To listen to the sound, connect to a TV or PC. Retouching images [H PERFECT FIX] H PERFECT FIX Edited or retouched images cannot be retouched again. Depending on the picture, the editing may not be effective. The retouching process may lower the image resolution. Submenu 1 Application [LIGHTING FIX] and [REDEYE FIX] are applied together.

IMAGE], or [ALL ERASE] (p. 30), but all images are erased by [MEMORY FORMAT]/[FORMAT] (p. 31). Submenu 2 Application Images can be erased. Menus for Other Camera Settings These settings can be adjusted from the shooting mode top menu or playback mode top menu. Erasing data completely [MEMORY FORMAT]/[FORMAT] E SETUP  MEMORY FORMAT/FORMAT Before formatting, check that no important data is left in the internal memory or card. Non-Olympus cards and cards that have been formatted by a computer must be formatted with this camera before use. Submenu 2 Application Completely erases the image data in the internal memory (including protected images). Cancels formatting. Be sure to remove the card before formatting the internal memory.

Before viewing camera images on your TV, select the video output according to your TV’s video signal type.     Printing Direct printing (PictBridge By connecting the camera to a PictBridge- compatible printer, you can print images directly without using a computer. To find out if your printer supports PictBridge, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. PictBridge is a standard for connecting digital cameras and printers of different makers and printing out pictures directly. The printing modes, paper sizes, and other parameters that can be set with the camera vary depending on the printer that is used. For details, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. For details on the available paper types, loading paper, and installing ink cassettes, refer to the printer’s instruction manual.     Windows After the computer detects the camera, a message indicating the completion of the setting appears. Confirm the message and click “OK”. The camera is recognized as a removable disk. Macintosh When iPhoto started, exit iPhoto and start OLYMPUS Master 2. While the camera is connected to the computer, shooting functions are disabled. Multi-connector Connecting the camera to a computer via a USB hub may cause unstable operation. When [MTP] is set for the submenu that appears by pressing d after selecting [PC] in Step 3, images cannot be transferred to a computer using OLYMPUS Master 2. Starting OLYMPUS Master 2 Double-click the OLYMPUS Master 2 icon Windows appears on the desktop. Macintosh appears in the OLYMPUS Master 2 folder. ● Browse window appears after starting the software. When you start OLYMPUS Master 2 for the first time after installation, “Default Settings” and “Registration” screens appear. Follow the instructions on the screen.
