Troubleshooting
Problem
AF-assist illuminator does not
light
Bright specks appear in pictures
taken with flash
Blur warning is not displayed
No sound when shutter is
released
Optical zoom cannot be used
Digital zoom cannot be used
Unexpected results when flash
set to A (auto with red-eye
reduction)
[Image mode] not available
[Date imprint] not available
Date not appearing on pictures

Cause/Solution
• [Off] is selected for AF assist option in
camera setup menu.
• AF-assist illuminator turns off auto-
matically in some modes.
Flash is reflecting off particles in air. Turn
flash off.
• [Off] is selected for [Blur warning] in
camera setup menu.
• Blur warning is not displayed in self-
timer, P, N, K, F, or T mode,
when option other than [Single] is
selected for [Continuous], or BSS is on.
• [Off] is selected for [Sound settings] >
[Shutter sound] in setup menu.
• BSS is on, option other than [Single] is
selected for [Continuous], or P or T
mode is selected.
Optical zoom cannot be used while
recording movies.
Digital zoom is not available in assist
modes or when option other than [Sin-
gle] is selected for [Continuous].
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix may, in very rare
cases, be applied to areas not affected
by red-eye. Set flash to z (auto) or C
(fill-flash) and try again. Note that red-
eye reduction is the default setting for
one-touch portrait, B, and D modes.
[Image mode] cannot be adjusted when
[Multi-shot 16] is selected for [Continu-
ous] or [Sport composite] is selected in
sports assist mode.
Camera clock has not been set.
Date does not appear on movies or on
pictures taken using N, F, P ([Sport
composite] excepted), [Continuous], or
BSS.
