TROUBLESHOOTING

What to Check
Does the engine crank?
YES
Good compression?
YES
Does the tank contain fresh
fuel of the proper grade?
YES
Is fuel reaching the cylinder
and combustion chamber?
YES
Is there spark at the spark
plug wire terminal?
YES
Check the spark plug.

ENGINE DOES NOT START
Possible Cause
NO
Faulty recoil starter.
Fluid in the crankcase.
Internal damage.
NO
Loose spark plug.
Excess wear on cylinder, piston, rings.
NO
Stale or contaminated fuel mixture.
NO
Check for clogged fuel filter and/or
vent.
NO
Is the ignition switch ON?
Faulty ignition ground.
Faulty ignition system.
If the plug is wet, excess fuel may be in
the cylinder.
The plug may be fouled or improperly
gapped.
The plug may be damaged internally or
may be the wrong size.
Remedy
Consult with an authorized servicing
dealer.
Tighten and re-test.
Consult with an authorized servicing
dealer.
Drain and refill with fresh, clean
unleaded gasoline with a pump octane
of 87 or higher mixed with Shindaiwa
-cycle mixing oil and gasoline at a
50:1 ratio).
Clean and replace as required and
re-start.
Move switch to ON
and re-start.
Consult with an authorized servicing
dealer.
Crank the engine with the plug re-
moved, replace the plug, and re-start.
See pg. 11 (Starting a flooded engine).
Clean and re-gap the plug to 0.04 inch
(0.6mm).Re-start.
Replace the plug with an NGK
BPMR7A. Re-start.
