Q. What is Blu-ray?
A. Blu-ray is the name of a new disc format designed by a large group
of manufacturers including Sony for the purpose of storing large
amounts of data (more than 6 times than DVD can hold) and also
playing back HD quality video. The name "Blu-ray" comes from the
fact that the laser used to read the disc is a blue-violet laser instead of
the typical red laser used to read DVDs.
The PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray disc drive, meaning that it can read
Blu-Ray media. But the drive can also read a wide variety of other
media including CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, etc.
