select Change Text Mode #, then scroll to and select the
desired entry mode.

tap method

This is the standard method for entering text.
Regular Tap method cycles through the letters and
numbers of the key you press. The Tap Extended method
cycles through letters, numbers, and symbols. If Tap or
Tap Extended is not available as the Primary or Secondary entry
mode, see page 20.
