4. Reinstall the oil fi ll cap/dipstick and tighten
securely.
NOTE: To prevent extensive engine wear or
damage, always maintain the proper oil
level in the crankcase. Never operate
the engine with the oil level below the
''L'' mark or over the ''F'' mark on the
dipstick.
Change Oil Filter
Replace the oil fi lter every other oil change (every
200 hours of operation). Always use a genuine
Kohler oil fi lter.
Replace the oil fi lter as follows:
1. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase.
2. Remove the oil fi lter drain plug (where applicable)
located at the base of the oil fi lter adapter. Allow
the oil fi lter to drain.
3. Remove the old fi lter and wipe off the fi lter
adapter. Reinstall the oil fi lter drain plug. Torque
the drain plug to 7.3-9.0 N·m (65-80 in. lb.).
4. Place a new replacement fi lter in a shallow pan
with the open end up. Pour new oil, of the proper
type, in through the threaded center hole. Stop
pouring when the oil reaches the bottom of the
threads. Allow a minute or two for the oil to be
absorbed by the fi lter material.
5. Put a drop of oil on your fi ngertip and wipe it on
the rubber gasket.
6. Install the replacement oil fi lter to the fi lter
adapter. Turn the oil fi lter clockwise until the
rubber gasket contacts the fi lter adapter, then
tighten the fi lter an additional 2/3 to 1 turn.
7. Fill the crankcase with new oil, of the proper type,
to the "F" mark on the dipstick.
8. Test run the engine to check for leaks. Stop the
engine, allow a minute for the oil to drain down,
and recheck the level on the dipstick. Add more
oil, as necessary, so the oil level is up to but not
over the "F" mark on the dipstick.
Full-Pressure Lubrication System
Operation
This engine uses a full-pressure lubrication system.
This system delivers oil, under pressure, to the
crankshaft, camshaft, balance shaft, and connecting
rod bearing surfaces. In addition to lubricating the
bearing surfaces, the lubrication system feeds oil to
the hydraulic valve lifters.

A high effi ciency Gerotor
oil pan and is driven by the balance shaft. A pressure
relief valve in the oil pan limits the maximum pressure
of the system.
Service
The oil pump rotors can be serviced without removing
the oil pan. Remove the oil pump cover on the PTO
side of oil pan to service the rotors.
The oil pan must be removed to service the oil pickup
and oil pressure relief valve.
