    If you believe that your vehicle has a defect which could cause a crash or could cause injury or death, you should immediately inform the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in addition to notifying Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign.

    Driving Warning! Make sure that absolutely no objects are ob- structing the pedal’s range of movement. Keep the driver’s footwell clear of all obsta- cles. If there are any floormats or carpets in the footwell, make sure the pedals still have sufficient clearance.

    Parking and locking You have now completed your first drive. You have properly stopped and parked your vehicle. End your drive as follows. Warning! With the engine not running, there is no power assistance for the brake and steering system. In this case, it is important to keep in mind that a considerably higher degree of effort is necessary to brake and steer the vehicle.

    The Brake Assist System (BAS) operates in emergency situations. If you apply the brakes very quickly, the BAS automatically provides full brake boost, thereby poten- tially reducing the braking distance. Apply continuous full braking pressure until the emergency braking situation is over.

    Performance enhancement system Airbrake The Airbrake enhances the vehicle’s driv- ing stability. It adapts the aerodynamics of the vehicle to the driving conditions ac- cording to the speed and the mode set. This is achieved using a moveable spoiler. The Airbrake is located at the rear edge of the trunk lid.
  • Page 91 The Airbrake returns to its initial position. Manual mode In this mode, the Airbrake is set to an angle of 30° (Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition: 35°). The driver downforce mode enhances stability while reducing agility. Slide the Airbrake switch 4 to position 1.

    Safety and Security Anti-theft systems Tow-away alarm Once the tow-away alarm is armed, a visual and audible alarm will be triggered when someone attempts to raise the vehicle. The tow-away protection alarm is triggered, for example, if the vehicle is lifted on one side. If the alarm stays on for more than 30 seconds, a call to the Response Center is initiated auto- matically by the Tele Aid system ( page 221)

Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, or with access to an unlocked vehicle. If the antifreeze mixture is effective to -35°F (-37°C), the boiling point of the cool- ant in the pressurized cooling system is reached at approximately 266°F (130°C).
