    Introduction The Cirrus LT is a zero client notebook that allows you to securely connect to any kind of network, remote host, or virtual machine. The Cirrus LT has no local storage, so there is no vulnerability to viruses or malware, and no files or information will be compromised if the notebook is lost or stolen.

    Installing the Battery To install the battery, follow the steps below: Align and slide the battery into the battery compartment. Push the battery into the compartment until the battery locks into place, and make sure the latches are locked into position. The left latch will automatically go into the locked position when you push the battery in place, but you must manually lock the right latch, as shown.

    Using Battery Power Install a charged battery in the battery compartment by removing the AC adapt- er (if plugged in). Your notebook will automatically use the battery power. Charging the Battery The Lithium-ion battery is not fully-charged upon purchase. To charge the battery, follow the steps below: Install the battery to your notebook.

    Turning On Your Notebook • Press the Power button until the Power LED lights up. Note: To force a hard shut down, press and hold the Power button for more than four seconds. Using the Keyboard Function Keys The function keys allow you perform certain tasks on your notebook. Below is a list of the function keys and their actions: Fn-F1: Turns Wi-Fi on and off.

    Touchpad The touch pad is a cursor-pointing device. You can point, select, or drag items or objects on the screen. For more details on the touchpad, see Device Manager Section in Chapter 4. Point Slide your finger on the touch pad to point the cursor to an item or object on the screen.

    Connecting Headphones Note: This port is located on the right side of the notebook. Headphones/Headset Jack You can connect either headphones or external speakers to the Cirrus LT Notebook via its Headphones/Headset Port (see above). This Headphones/Headset Port also supports Combo Headsets (Headphone/MIC) which come with a single plug (seen, for example on the iPhone headphone), as well as CTIA and OMTP Headsets.

    Connecting the Docking Station CAUTION: You must connect the 90 Watt AC Adapter (19V, 4.74A) to the Docking Station in order for the Cirrus LT to function correctly while in the Docking Sta- tion. You can connect your notebook to a Docking Station. The Docking Station has many of the same ports as the notebook except it also has two DVI-D ports and a fiber SFP port.

While the notebook is docked in the Docking Station, the dedicated USB key- board and mouse ports will not work and these ports are active in the Docking Station only.

    Docking Station Audio Subsystem The Cirrus LT Docking Station has a Line-out port which is intended to be con- nected to desktop speakers (see below). Speaker Jack Microphone Jack The Docking Station Microphone Jack is a replica of Cirrus LT Microphone Jack to support traditional analog microphones or combo Headsets which have separate MIC and Headphone plugs.

    Installing a SFP Module The SFP module goes into the Fiber SFP port on the Docking Station and allows you to use fiber optic cable for more secure networking. The SFP module is pictured below. To install the SFP module: Place the SFP module into the Fiber SFP port.

    Chapter 4: Navigating the On Screen Menu Use the On Screen Menu (OSM) to configure various parameters on your Cirrus LT. To invoke the OSM you press Fn-F10. You can navigate through the OSM with the touchpad or with an external mouse connected to the dedicated USB Mouse Port located on the right side of your notebook.

    Main Menu The main menu has the following items: • Network: For changing network connectivity settings • Display: For changing the display options and modes • Power Management: For configuring OSM, Low Power Mode, and Sleep Timing Preferences. • Device Manager: For configuring speaker volume, webcam, and touchpad settings.

    Network This network Submenu lets you configure wired and wireless settings and al- lows you to enable and disable both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. Ethernet To enable the Ethernet: Click the Network Submenu. Select Ethernet. Click the Enable Ethernet selection box. A green check mark signifies that Ethernet has been enabled, as shown below.

    To disable the Ethernet: Click the Network Submenu. Select Ethernet. Click the Enable Ethernet selection box. A gray “X” signifies that Ether- net has been disabled. Wi-Fi All wireless configuration is done in these menus. You can enable or disable wireless entirely.

  • Page 41 Available Networks You can see all the available Wi-Fi networks with this option. You can click on the WLAN you would like to connect to and then enter the password for the WLAN. Remember to check the “Save Connection” check box if you would like to save this information for future convenience.* Available wireless networks are sorted by signal strength.

  • Page 43 Choose the Network Type from the top drop down list. When selecting a network from the available networks list, the OSM will automatically detect the proper network type. You only need to select the network type of hidden networks. Note: When making wireless connections the Cirrus LT only supports WPA2 and higher levels of security.

This will add a new check box when signing onto Wi-Fi networks labeled “Save”. By checking this check box you will be adding this Wi-Fi network as a preferred network.

    SSL VPN To enable SSL VPN: Click the Network Submenu. Select SSL VPN. Click the Enable VPN selection box. A green check mark signifies that VPN has been enabled, as shown below. To disable SSL VPN: Click the Network Submenu. Select SSL VPN.

    Web Portal • Some public Wi-Fi networks will require you to confirm or authenticate to the Wi-Fi network via a web page. If this is the case you need to enable the Web Portal (also known as a Captive Portal) feature under the administrator settings in order for another window to pop up for you to interact with that Wi-Fi networks web interface.
  • Page 50 • Just ensure you have connected to the open Wi-Fi network and then once you are sure you have an IP Address, then click on Web Portal selection in the Network Menu. • If for some reason the network you are on does not have a web portal, Cirrus LT will take you to a default web page on ncst.com to confirm everything is working properly and you should be able to do a remote session.

    Native Display Off This feature allows you to turn off the Native Display. To turn off the Native Display: Click the Display Settings Submenu. Click the box next to Native Display On. The Native Display will then turn off. Note: You can also turn off the Native Display by pressing Fn-F4. To turn on the Native Display: Cycle through the available display modes by pressing Fn-F5.

    Brightness To increase or decrease screen brightness: Click the Display Settings Submenu. Toggle the Brightness slide left or right until you reach your desired screen brightness. Moving the slide to the right will increase the bright- ness, and moving the slide to the left will decrease the brightness. OR press Fn-F2 to decrease the screen brightness, or press Fn-F3 to increase the screen brightness.

  • Page 56 Option 1: Use Native LCD Display Only This is the default choice that the Cirrus LT is set to, in order to only use the Cirrus LT’s notebook display. Option 2: Clone Native LCD on Display 1 of Docking Station In order to Clone your display with a Docking Station you will need to connect your laptop into the Docking Station and then connect an exter- nal display to PCoIP1/Local (DVI1) Port.
  • Page 57 Option 3: Turn off Native LCD; Use Display 1 of Docking Station, and Display 2 of the MiniDP port or Docking Station This option allows you to close the notebook lid and use Display 2, or have one display plugged into the Docking Station and a second miniDP Port for another screen for an extended desktop.

Cloning Displays Without a Docking Station In order to clone two displays without the use of a Docking Station you must first attach a display to the miniDP port on the notebook.

    Changing the Duration of the On Screen Menu (OSM) Timeout There are two ways to set the OSM Timeout interval. The first way can be set within the OSM itself, under Power Management > Power Settings > OSM Time- out. The second way is via Teradici’s Firmware Menu. Note: You may change the duration of the timeout with either option.
  • Page 63 The Menu Display Time Out Section will appear, as shown below. You may choose between Do Not Sleep, 1 Minute, 5 Minutes, 15 Minutes, 30 Minutes, or 60 Minutes (5 Minutes is the default setting). Select the desired interval and click on ‘Settings’ to return to the Power Savings Menu.

  • Page 65 Click on the Power Tab. Enter the new duration of the OSM Screen-Saver Timeout in seconds, not minutes. For example, if you wanted to set the duration to 10 minutes, you would enter 600 seconds (Teradici’s Firmware OSM Screen-Saver Timeout default is set to 300 seconds, or 5 minutes). If you enter ‘0’ Sec- onds, the OSM Screen-Saver Timeout will be disabled.

    Low Power Mode Enabling Low Power Mode Enabling this mode enables the sleep mode and auto power off. If this is disabled these options disappear and the unit will not enter sleep mode To turn on Low Power Mode: Click the Power Management Submenu. Click the box next to Low Power Mode.
  • Page 67 Enable in Session Enabling this mode will put the unit to sleep within the selected amount of time of inactivity even if in a remote session. To Enable In Session Mode: Click the Power Management Submenu. Click the box next to Enable In Session. When the green ‘check mark’ is selected, Enable In Session Mode will then be turned on.

    Timing Preferences Sleep Mode Timeout To change duration of the Sleep Mode Timeout: Click the Power Management Submenu, then click the Sleep Mode Time- out Submenu, as shown below. The Sleep Mode Timeout’ Section will appear, as shown below. You may choose between Do Not Sleep, 1 Minute, 5 Minutes, 15 Minutes, 30 Min- utes, or 60 Minutes (15 Minutes is the default setting).

The ‘Auto Power Off’ Menu will appear, as shown below. You may choose between Do Not Shutdown, 1 Minute, 5 Minutes, 15 Minutes, 30 Minutes, or 60 Minutes (30 Minutes is the default setting).

    Device Manager The Device Manager allows you to do a number of things, including muting or con- trolling the speaker volume, determine what the notebook does when you close the lid, turning the touchpad on or off, and enabling or disabling the webcam. Speakers You can mute the speakers or adjust the speaker volume.

    On Lid Close You can determine what the notebook does when you close the lid. You can ei- ther: turn off the screen only, enter sleep mode or power down. To configure the On Lid Close settings: Click the Display Settings Submenu. Select On Lid Closed Action.
  • Page 73: Touchpad/Keyboard Settings

    Touchpad/Keyboard Settings You can lock/unlock the touchpad, which can be useful if you want to use a mouse (or any other pointer device) instead of the touchpad. Locking the touch- pad can also help prevent unwanted cursor movement (that may occur when inadvertently touching the Touchpad) while they are typing.
  • Page 74 To Unlock the Touchpad: Click the Device Management Submenu > Touchpad/Keyboard Settings. Click the box next to Lock Touchpad. When the gray ‘X’ is selected, the Touchpad will be enabled. Tap and Gesture When this feature is enabled you will be able to tap the touchpad to simulate the left button click and use other touchpad gestures to zoom in on the screen.
  • Page 75 To Disable Tap and Gesture: Click the Device Management Submenu > Touchpad/Keyboard Settings. Click the box next to Tap and Gesture. When the gray ‘X’ is selected, the Touchpad will be disabled. Adjusting Touchpad Sensitivity/Mouse Cursor Speed Settings You can adjust the sensitivity of the Cirrus LT’s Touchpad (referred to here as mouse speed cursor settings) for the OSM sessions via Teradici’s Options Menu.

    Click on the Mouse Tab. Use the slider to decrease or increase the Cirrus LT’s touchpad sensitiv- ity. When you are done click the ‘Apply’ button, then ‘OK’ to exit back to the Teradici Main Window. Webcam You can enable or disable the webcam by clicking the box next to Enable Web- cam or by pressing Fn-F12.

    Administrator Once you have logged in, the Administrator Submenu lets you adjust the administra- tor settings and view the system information. Admin Login To login as an administrator: Click the Administrator Submenu. Click Admin Login. Type in your user ID and password and click Login. Note: The default user ID is “admin,”...

    Administrator Settings The administrator settings enable you to allow or disallow saving Wi-Fi pass- words and web portals, change the asset tag, change admin and user credentials, and view system info. Allow Saving Wi-Fi Password To allow or disallow the saving of Wi-Fi passwords: Click the Administrator Submenu.

    Allow Web Portal Since this system has no real browser, the web portal enables you to connect to open or public Wi-Fi networks that require you to accept an agreement or enter in additional information via a web portal, for example, a hotel may require a room number before proceeding onto their Wi-Fi network.
