MOUNTING AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
MANOVERBOARD LIGHT AND SMOKE
Read these instructions carefully before handling the MOB Signal!

MANOVERBOARD SMOKE
Please read these instructions carefully before handling
the MOB. Note that MOB Smoke has no electric lights, but all
mountings and operating procedures are the same as for
MOB Light and Smoke.
1. To comply with SOLAS, two signals must be mounted
vertically facing seaward one to port and one to starboard
of ship´s bridge, using brackets supplied as required.
2. Mount the MOB at a minimum of 5 m (16.4 ft) above water
line. (On smaller vessels where this distance is not possible
or practical, see "Manual Operation of Signal").
Maximum height of mounting 60 m (197 ft).
3. Ensure signal has a clear unobstructed drop to the sea.
4. The MOB is designed to be used with a life buoy weighing
2.5 kg (5.5 lb) minimum, attached by 8 mm (0.32 in)
diameter line 4 m (13.12 ft) long.
5. Position the MOB either behind or directly to the side of the
life buoy.
6. The MOB has a service life as indicated by the date label on
the signal, and must be replaced after this date. Replace
the mounting bracket at the same time as the MOB if it is
subjected to extreme weather, or as required after inspection
of bracket condition.
