General Description
The Model 1710 lock is a single electromagnetic lock for surface mount applications on single outward-opening doors. The
electromagnet assembly mounts securely to the header on the inside (stop side) of the door, and an armature is secured to
the door with appropriate hardware to ensure proper floating action. Figures 1 and 5 give diagrammatic explanations of typical
installations.
For inward opening doors use Model 317-611 Z/L bracket combination. For frameless glass doors opening outward use
Frameless Glass Door Bracket part no. 317-650 for 10mm glass or part no. 317-651 for 12mm glass. For extensions to a door
header use a LOKTRONIC Header Extension Angle Bracket, see figures 8-11 page 7 of these instructions.
In installations with 67 mm reveal or more no filler plate or angle bracket will be required. If reveal is less than 67 mm a filler
plate (by others) or a LOKTRONIC Header Extension Angle Bracket may need to be fitted (see Figures 5 & 6, 8-11). Included
with the 1710 lock is a fitting kit, which contains the necessary mounting hardware for standard installations with either metal
or wooden headers, without filler plates, angle brackets or reinforcing plates.
Model 1710 is supplied with a Door Position Switch (DPS), and a Magnetic Bond Sensor (MBS) as standard features. The
purpose and operation of these is explained in Sections 3.2 and 3.3 respectively.
The electromagnet is electroless nickel plated prior to potting thus minimising corrosion and providing a high quality finish.
Armatures are electroless nickel plated. The electromagnet housings are of satin-polished natural anodised aluminium. Bright
Gold and Matt Black anodised finishes are also available to order. Other special finishes may be specified: - contact sales
office for details. Accessories are not available ex-stock in Bright Gold or Matt Black.
The fitting kit is of all stainless steel components to minimise corrosion. The shoulder bolt has an extra small Allen socket to
reduce the chance of tampering. The sex nut is through-hardened, polished stainless steel for added security.

Mounting
Electromagnetic locks require careful alignment and accuracy in installation to ensure optimum performance. Template
dimensions are supplied on applicable drawings for location, but it will usually be easier and more accurate to follow the
recommended mounting procedures below.
Tools required:
No. 2 Pozi screwdriver; 4 mm Allen key; 8 & 13 mm drills (common)
4.2 & 6.8 mm drills; M5 X 0.8 and/or M8 X 1.25 taps (metal door/header);
2.1
Reinforcing plate (by others)
If the header is not strong enough to withstand the holding force of the electromagnet a reinforcing plate or bracket may be
required. This may need to be longer and or wider than the lock assembly to give adequate strength. The lock can then be
fitted directly to this reinforcer. See Figures 5 & 6.
