Installation Precautions
You must read all of the written material and follow all of the precautions and directions before beginning an
installation. All existing local and state plumbing codes must be followed.
Operation Pressure Range: 20 to 100 psi (140 to 690 kPa)
Operating Temperature Range: 40° to 100° F (4° to 38° C)
For cold water supply line installation only
Do not locate unit in direct sunlight. Protect the unit from freezing.
Chemical solvents should not be used to clean the unit. Only warm water with mild soap may be used, rinsing
afterwards with clean water.
Threads should be sealed using only Teflon
Using a torch near plastic housings can cause damage to the filter. Sweat joints must be made before attach-
ing to the filter head.
If the water piping is used as an electrical ground, then a jumper wire must be installed around the filter.
Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection
before or after the unit. Units certified for cyst reduction may be used on disinfected waters that may contain
filterable cysts.
Warning: You must consult a water quality professional to test your water and recommend any necessary
treatment for bacteria, chemicals, or other possible contaminants not removed by this filter. This cartridge will
lose its effectiveness over time and must be changed in accordance with the printed instructions.

  • Page 2 Blake Water Solutions Connections The inlet and outlet ports on the filter housing are prominently marked with either the words or with arrows showing the direction of flow. When making the connections, make sure that the flow path is followed correctly. Standard models are provided with NPT pipe thread ports as stated on the box or on the product label. When adapting the filter to other pipe sizes, those adapting fittings must be obtained from local sources. Install the filter where it will not be hit or subjected to direct sunlight, freezing, or other potential abuse. After turning off the system water pressure and draining the system, cut out a length of pipe that is the length of the filter plus the necessary adaptor fittings. Use moderate torque when tightening the fittings to avoid cracking the filter head. Filter Start-Up Procedure Put the correct cartridge in the filter. Cartridges may be obtained from your Blake Water Systems dealer. Secure the sump to the filter head by screwing the ring nut onto the head finger tight. If needed, carefully use the wrench provided. For valve-in-head housings, models: BVC75 & BVC100 • Pressurize the unit after it is sealed. Turn the valve knob from the ON position to the BYPASS position 2-3 times, or until a small amount of water escapes from the vent underneath the knob. This vents excess air from the housing. • Set the valve knob in the ON position for normal operation. • Check for leaks and correct if necessary. Flush the unit for fifteen minutes to purge the filter of air and debris.
