MIDI Rocker LX – Yamaha EZ Guitar User Guide
Firmware Revision 1.2. Revision Date: 01/03/10
Thank you for your purchase of the MIDI Rocker LX. I hope it helps to take your Rock Band or Guitar Hero World Tour
experience to the next level!
This guide covers the specifics of using the MIDI Rocker LX with the Yamaha EZ MIDI Guitar to play Rock Band or Guitar
Hero on the PlayStation. Be sure to check the website
firmware. You can load other firmware to use your MIDI Rocker LX with an electronic drum set – please see the MIDI Rocker
LX User Guide for instructions on loading firmware.
You can also check for updated information or ask for help at our Google Group, at
rocker .
Note: Currently the MIDI Rocker LX only works as a guitar controller on the PlayStation and will not work on the Wii or
Xbox.

Getting Started

When loaded with the guitar firmware, the MIDI Rocker LX is pre-programmed and ready to use with the Yamaha EZ guitar
(either the EZ-EG or EZ-AG). There are no "note maps" to load or other settings to initialize. Just connect the MIDI OUT from
the guitar to the MIDI IN on the LX, and plug the USB on the LX into the USB on the console. It is recommended that you plug
the LX directly into a USB port on the console, or use a powered hub.
Playing the Guitar in Rock Band or Guitar Hero
When you press a fret button or strum a string on the guitar, it sends data out the MIDI OUT port to the LX. The LX examines
this data and then converts it into button press or strum data so that to the game, the guitar behaves like a Rock Band 2 guitar.
This picture shows how the buttons and strings are mapped from the EZ guitar to the game:
To play a "note" in the game, you simply hold down any of the fret buttons which correspond to the note color as shown in the
picture, and then strum the top or bottom string. To activate "overdrive" (or "starpower"), strum either of the middle strings. You
can also use the fret buttons and strings to navigate menus in the game.
