Copying DV files from the NEX-EA50
Content Browser Ver. 2.1 / Clip management application
Content Browser identifies DV content in NEX-EA50 memory and converts the folder structure to XDCAM EX DV-AVI format
for copying to a Windows or Mac computer.
The process of converting compressed DV video data does not involve re-encoding, so there is no loss of image quality. AVI
files split into 2 GB chunks are joined into clips as per the original recordings. Converted MXF and MOV files can be imported
into editing programs.
Note
1. Conversion to MOV format is available on Content Browser for Mac OS only.
2. Some video editing programs may encounter problems when importing DV-AVI files directly from the NEX-EA50, such as incorrect
aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9) or loss of audio. Where data has been split into 2 GB chunks, momentary loss of audio or video may
occur as the chunks are not rejoined.
Connecting a non-Sony external recording device
The Rec-Run time code allows high-quality HDMI camera data to be recorded onto an external device.
The HDMI output terminals on the NEX-EA50 supply uncompressed digital HD/SD
signal during recording. This means that video can be recorded onto an external device
via an HDMI cable at maximum quality. The addition of time code (TC) on the HDMI
signal effectively makes it equivalent to SDI signal for recording and editing purposes.
To insert time code into the HDMI signal, navigate to:
MENU → REC/OUTPUT SET → VIDEO OUTPUT → HDMI TC OUTPUT → ON
Set the external recording device to Time Code Run Rec to synchronize recording
operations with the NEX-EA50.
For other operations on the external recording device, refer to the manufacture's
instructions.
Note: Time Code Rec-Run
Synchronizes recording with the time code of the connected camera; starts recording when
the camera time code starts, and stops recording when the camera time code stops.
