Operating Instructions
Playback (Basic play)
Refer to the illustrations on pages 28 to
29 of the Japanese text.
Preparation
Preparation
≥Release HOLD.
≥Insert a MD.

Connect the remote control and
earphones, then insert the remote
control's plug into the headphone jack
[Ë] on the unit.

Main unit
Press [1 ;] to start play.
Remote control
Press [ 1/∫ ] to start play.
The unit stops automatically when all the
tracks on the disc have been played.

Adjust the volume.
r: To increase the volume level
s: To decrease the volume level
Volume level is 0–25.
∫To pause play
Main unit
Press [1 ;] during play.
Playback starts when pressed again.
∫To stop the disc
Main unit
Press [∫ OPR OFF].
Remote control
Press [ 1/∫ ].
≥The unit powers itself off automatically in
about a minute.
≥You can turn off the unit by pressing again
[∫ OPR OFF] on the main unit while
stopped.
∫Playback for long times
≥MDLP
≥You can play tracks recorded with MDLP
mode. "LP-2" or "LP-4" is displayed.
≥Monaural playback
≥If a disc was recorded monaurally, the unit
automatically switches to monaural
playback mode.
The unit selects the play mode according to
the recording mode: normal stereo, 2 x play
stereo (LP2), or 4 x play stereo (LP4),
monaural.
∫Resume function
The unit stores the point at which play was
stopped and if [1 ;] on the main unit or
[ 1/∫ ] on the remote control is pressed
again, play begins from that point. This does
not work if the unit is opened or if the battery
is removed. The unit starts play from the first
track in these cases.
To listen through the speakers
Refer to the illustration on page 30 of the
Japanese text.
1. Insert a rechargeable battery into the unit.
2. Install the unit to the multi cradle.
3. Connect the AC adaptor to the multi cradle.
4. Connect the speakers to the multi cradle.
To operate the settings for the speakers use
the same process as for stereo earphones.
Adjusting the volume
Can also be performed using the multi cradle
[ M s r L , VOL/CURSOR ] buttons.
Note
≥Make sure you connect the AC adaptor as
sound will not be produced by the speakers
if you use only batteries.
≥You may listen to the music you are
recording via the speakers (excepting when
you are recording using a microphone).

Skip
This function skips tracks and play begins
from the beginning of the selected track.
Main unit
Remote control
Press [ :, 9 ] during play.
Forward : [9] Backward : [:]
If you keep the button depressed the unit will
continue to skip tracks
Search
This function allows you to fast-forward or
rewind through tracks.
Main unit
Remote control
Press and hold [ :, 9 ] during play.
Forward : [9] Backward : [:]

Track select

This function allows you to begin listening
from a selected track.

Main unit
Press [ :, 9 ] while stopped to select
the track you like.
Forward : [9] Backward : [:]
If you keep the button depressed the unit
will continue to skip tracks

Main unit
Press [1 ;] to start play.
Remote control
Press [ 1/∫ ] to start play.
Play starts from the selected track and
plays through to the final track.
Intro-scan memory
You can operate this function only using
remote control.
Scan the introductions of tracks and program
a maximum of 16 tracks in the order you want
to hear them.
∫Program the tracks

. While stopped, press [PLAY MODE] until
"INTRO" appears.
The unit powers itself off in about 1 minute
if you do not perform another operation.

. Press [1/∫].
≥The first 10 seconds of each track are
played in order (intro-scan).
≥You can skip tracks during intro-scan.

. Press [T.MARK/EQ] while the track
number is flashing to program the track.
When the introduction of the last track is
played, intro-scan starts again from the
beginning. Tracks you have programmed
are not played again.

. Repeat step 3 to program all the tracks
you want.

. Press [1/∫] to finish programming.
You can start play of the program by
pressing [1/∫].
∫If "END" or "FULL" is displayed
You cannot program any more tracks.
END : you have programmed all tracks on the
disc.
FULL : you have programmed the maximum
of 16 tracks.
Programming ends 2 seconds after either of
these is displayed.
∫To make a new program
Clear all tracks
While stopped and "MEMO" is on the display,
press and hold [T.MARK/EQ] for about 5
seconds.
"CLEAR" is displayed and all tracks are
cleared. "INTRO" appears on the display after
this. Start from step 2.
∫To cancel intro scan
Press [PLAY MODE] while stopped.
("INTRO" disappears, the time information is
shown, and normal play is restored.)
Note
It is not possible to use intro-scan playback or
memory playback (refer right) in group mode.

Using the program play
If "MEMO" is on the display, start from step 2.
1. While stopped, press [PLAY MODE] until
"MEMO" appears.
2. Press [1/∫].
≥The tracks are played in the programmed
order.
≥During program play, "MEMO" is
displayed after the track's title on the
remote control's display.
∫To stop play
Press [1/∫].
∫To cancel program play (The
program is stored)
Press [PLAY MODE] while stopped or playing.
("MEMO" disappears, the time information is
shown, and normal play is restored.)
∫The program is cleared in the
following cases
≥You Clear all tracks
≥The battery goes flat
≥You open the disc lid
≥You open the battery cover
≥You activate recording
≥You press [EDIT] and editing operations are
carried out.
≥You activate Net MD.

Sound quality

Main unit
Press [EQ/ REC SENS] when the unit is
stopped or playing.
Remote control
Press [T.MARK/EQ] when the unit is
stopped or playing.
The mode changes each time the button is
pressed.

XBS-1
Increases the power of
the bass sounds.

XBS-2
Increases the XBS-1 effect.

TRAIN
Reduces sounds that may annoy
others when you are using the
unit in a public place.
