The Keyboard a nd co ntrols on your Royal are like a
sta ndard offi ce typewriter . . . desig ned for natura l ease in typing.
New plast ic keys a r e Finger-Fl ow in sha pe. Ther e's no obstru cting
sem i-circle in front of the key t o brush fi nger s or cause un t idy work.
Letter s a r e inlaid rig ht throug h t he keys and cann ot rub off; they
stay clean, too , beca use t hey a r e exactly flu sh with key surface.
To t ype capitals or upper case characters
press either Shift
Key a t th e ext reme end s of the lowest ba nk of letter keys, holdin g it
down whil e you use the letter key.
To t ype capitals or upper case characters in sequence
pr ess the Shift Lock Key, just above th e left Shift Key , which holds
th e segment in th e upper case until yo u press either Shift Key .
Wa rning Bell and Margin Release.
When in typing you ap-
proach the right margin, your warning bell will ring . Afte r you have
typed several more cha r acters, th e lin e lock will ta ke eff ect, locking
the ty pe ba r s to prevent yo u fr om ty ping one cha r act er over another.
To type past the right margin line lock,
or t o type within
your left ha nd ma r g in, pr ess th e Ma rg in R elea se Key .

The Ribbon Color Change Lever
(1)
permits you to use either the upper or
lower halfs of th e ribbon. To type using
the lower, or r ed, half of a two-color rib-
bon, move the lever to the r ed dot. To
use the upper, or black, half of the r ib-
bon, mov e th e lever to the black dot. To
make th e ribbon inoperative for st encil
writing, move the lever to the white dot.
The ribbon reverses itself automati-
cally when the end of the ribbon is
reached. However, it may be reversed a t
any time by moving the Ribbon Reverse
Lever (2) to its opposite position.
When purchasing new ribbons,
be sure to get a ribbon made
