22. Create, save, and print a new storage subsystem profile.
Replacing a power-fan controller in the DS3500 controller-drive
enclosure
Use one of these procedures to replace a failed power-fan controller in the DS3500
controller-drive enclosure. If your storage subsystem uses AC power, use the
procedure on for AC power-fan. If your storage subsystem uses DC power, use the
procedure for DC power-fan.
Replacing an AC power-fan controller in the DS3500
controller-drive enclosure
Note: You may refer to "Replacing an ac power supply" on page 132 for
additional information and safety precautions.
Before you begin, gather anti-static protection and a replacement AC power-fan
controller.
Attention: Possible equipment damage – You must replace the power-fan
controller within three minutes after removing the failed power-fan controller to
prevent the possibility of overheating the equipment.
You can determine whether you have a failed power-fan controller in two ways:
v The Recovery Guru directs you to replace a failed power-fan controller.
v You locate the failed power-fan controller by checking the Power-Fan Service
Attention: Possible hardware damage – To prevent electrostatic discharge damage
to the enclosure, use proper anti-static protection when handling enclosure
components.

v Ensure that the power cable is working and fully seated into the dc power
connector.
v Ensure that the dc power cable is properly connected to the dc power
source.
v Reinstall the power supply.
If these tasks do not solve the problem, contact your IBM technical-support
representative.
v Yes : Click Recovery Guru in the Subsystem Management window toolbar
and complete the recovery procedure. If a problem is still indicated, contact
your IBM technical-support representative.
v No: Go to step 22.

1. If possible, use the storage management software to create, save, and print a
new storage subsystem profile.
2. Did the Recovery Guru direct you to replace a failed power-fan controller?
v Yes – Go to step 3.
v No – Run the Recovery Guru to identify the failed component, and go to
step 3.
