    Getting started • D o not cover the antenna area with your hands or other objects. This may cause connectivity problems or drain the battery. • D o not use a screen protector. This causes sensor malfunctions. • D o not allow water to contact the touch screen. The touch screen may malfunction in humid conditions or when exposed to water.

    Use the charger to charge the battery before using it for the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the device by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables. Unapproved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device.
  • Page 13 • W hile charging, the device may heat up. This is normal and should not affect the device’s lifespan or performance. If the battery gets hotter than usual, the charger may stop charging. • I f the device is not charging properly, take the device and the charger to a Samsung Service Centre.

    Getting started After fully charging, disconnect the device from the charger. First unplug the charger from the device, and then unplug it from the electric socket. Do not remove the battery before removing the charger. This may damage the device. To save energy, unplug the charger when not in use.

    Getting started Inserting a memory card Your device accepts memory cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memory card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with your device. • S ome memory cards may not be fully compatible with the device. Using an incompatible card may damage the device or the memory card, or corrupt the data stored in it.

    Do not remove the memory card while the device is transferring or accessing information. Doing so can cause data to be lost or corrupted or damage to the memory card or device.     Getting started Locking and unlocking the device When not in use, lock the device to prevent unwanted operation. Pressing the Power button turns off the screen and puts the device into lock mode. The device automatically gets locked if it is not used for a specified period. To unlock the device, press the Power button or the Home button and flick your finger in any direction within the unlock screen area at the lower part of the screen.

    Getting started Setting TalkBack This device features TalkBack, which is especially designed for the visually impaired. With TalkBack, the device can read aloud information, such as messages and notifications, and provide voice feedback about your selections. Turn on TalkBack and the Explore by touch feature.

    Getting started Using the touch screen with Explore by touch With the Explore by touch feature, you can use the touch screen by touching and listening. Selecting an item When you drag your finger around the screen, the device reads content or the name of the item under your finger.

You can set the device to read text in smaller units, such as words or individual characters. Select some text to read in units.     Basics Using the touch screen Use only fingers to use the touch screen. • D o not allow the touch screen to come into contact with other electrical devices. Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch screen to malfunction. • T o avoid damaging the touch screen, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply excessive pressure to it with your fingertips.
  • Page 24 Basics Tapping and holding Tap and hold an item for more than 2 seconds to access available options. Dragging To move an icon, thumbnail, or preview to a new location, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double-tapping Double-tap on a webpage or image to zoom in a part.

    Basics Control motions Simple motions allow easy control of the device. Before using motions, make sure the motion feature is activated. On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → My device → Motions and gestures → Motion, and then drag the Motion switch to the right.
  • Page 27 Basics Picking up When you pick up the device after it has been idle for some time or when the screen has turned off, it vibrates if you have missed calls or new messages.     Basics Palm motions Use palm motions to control the device by touching the screen. Before using motions, make sure the palm motion feature is activated. On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → My device → Motions and gestures → Palm motion, and then drag the Palm motion switch to the right.

    Basics Notifications Notification icons appear on the status bar at the top of the screen to report missed calls, new messages, calendar events, device status, and more. Drag down from the status bar to open the notifications panel. Scroll the list to see additional alerts. To close the notifications panel, drag up the bar that is at the bottom of the screen.

    Select the network in the networks list, and then tap Forget. Setting up accounts Google applications, such as Play Store, require a Google account, and Samsung Apps requires a Samsung account. Create Google and Samsung accounts to have the best experience with the device.

    Media To listen to songs at equal volume levels, press the Menu button, and then tap Settings → Smart volume. When Smart volume is activated, the volume may end up louder than the device volume level. Use caution to avoid long-term exposure to loud sounds to prevent damage to your hearing.

    Media Uploading videos Select your account, tap , select a video, enter information for the video, and then tap Radio Listen to music and news on the FM radio. To listen to the FM radio, you must connect a headset, which serves as the radio antenna. Tap Radio on the Applications screen.
