Balanced transmissions occur when the changes in +SIGNAL current and the changes in the –
SIGNAL current precisely cancel each other. The balance is important to reduce EMI and common
mode signals. Asymmetry occurs when the intensity of the source 2 and 4 assertion pair is different
from the source 1 and 3 negation pair. To compensate for the negation biasing effect of the
terminators, the 2 and 4 assertion pair is stronger than the 1 and 3 negation pair.

LVD receivers should be connected to the +signal and –signal as shown in Figure 1.41.
