Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as when the power cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the Capture Station, or the Capture Station has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

Portable Capture Station User Manual Parts of the Capture Station The Cradle and Connectors The cradle, located at the top of the Capture Station arm, secures the Reader to the Capture Station. The cradle also provides three connectors that connect the Reader to a power source and to other devices, such as a computer or a mouse.

Chapter 2. Getting Started • The standard USB connector, in the middle, connects the Capture Station to another USB device, such as a keyboard. It is marked by two raised dots. • The power connector, on the right, keeps the Reader charged. It is marked by three raised dots.
Portable Capture Station User Manual The Base The base of the Capture Station is a flat surface that holds the printed material. The base contains the page holder, a flat strip that lies across the base. At each side of the page holder are the page holder arms, which you use to raise and lower the page holder as you insert and remove the printed material.

Chapter 2. Getting Started Locate the sliders along the top edge of the case. They are marked with small indented arrows. Pull the sliders toward you, being careful not to pinch your fingers or hands.

Portable Capture Station User Manual As you pull the sliders toward you, carefully lay each side of the Capture Station base on the table. Locate the release button on the front lower edge of the arm. The release button is blue and has six raised dots.

Chapter 2. Getting Started Press and hold the release button while you lift the arm, until the arm latches into place. As you lift the arm, take care that you do not pinch your fingers when it locks in place.

Chapter 2. Getting Started Connecting the Reader to the Capture Station Slide the Reader into the cradle with the display screen facing you. Then press up on the mini-USB connector, the left-most of the three connectors at the bottom edge of the cradle. This connector is marked by one raised dot.
Portable Capture Station User Manual Removing the Protective Covering The plastic strip that lies across the base of the Capture Station is the page holder. The page holder keeps pages flat so the camera can capture a better image. Before using the Capture Station for the first time, peel off the three strips of shipping tape on the base.

Portable Capture Station User Manual Chapter 3. Capturing Text Placing Reading Material in the Capture Station Locate the page holder arms on either side of the Capture Station base. Each page holder arm has six raised dots. Lift the page holder arms to raise the page holder. If the text is on a single page or lies flat on its own, you can place it on top of the page holder.
Chapter 3. Capturing Text TIP: For best results, align the upper left corner of the reading material with the upper left corner of the base, in the area illuminated by the autofocus light. Carefully lower the page holder arms until the page holder presses the pages of the book or text flat.
Portable Capture Station User Manual Using the Capture Button Connect the mini-USB connector into the Reader. The mini-USB is the connector on the left, on the bottom edge of the cradle. It is marked with one raised dot. Push it up to connect it to the Reader.
Chapter 3. Capturing Text Using a Mouse By connecting a mouse to the Capture Station, you can scroll through menu items, select items, capture text, and navigate through the menu tree. To use a mouse to capture text, plug the mouse into the standard USB port at the back of the Capture Station.
Any device, such as a keyboard or a computer, that can be connected to the Reader can also be used when the Reader is in the Capture Station. Connect the device to the back of the Portable Capture Station, and then connect the corresponding Capture Station connector to the Reader.
Chapter 3. Capturing Text Keeping the Reader Battery Charged To keep the Reader battery charged while it is in the Capture Station, connect the power to the Reader, by pushing up on the power connector at the front of the Capture Station.

Chapter 4. Storing the Portable Capture Station Safely Storing the Capture Station Before you close the Capture Station, it is important to disconnect the cables and remove the Reader. CAUTION: Do not store the Reader, power adapter, or any other items in the Capture Station carrying case.
