Note:
If your site's network (backbone) cannot handle 1Gb/s, the HP GbE2c Ethernet switch can work
at 100Mb/s.
The intention is for traffic to the external network to be routed through NIC2 on the control node
server blade. Since both of the server blade's connections to the administrative network and the
control node's connection to the external network are through the same switch, the cluster must
be configured with a suitable addressing scheme to separate the administrative port addresses
(NIC1) from the external network addresses. Additional separation may be achieved by
configuring a VLAN with switch ports 1-8 as members (see

(callout 3) to an external campus network.

4.2.2 Configuring a VLAN for the Administrative Network

Caution:
Set up the VLAN carefully and in accordance with the following procedures to ensure that access
to the switch management functions is available over the required network.
If a c3000-based configuration is connected to an external network, both the
Administrative/Console network and the external network are connected to the same switch.
Although Internet Protocol (IP) addressing and subnetting may be used to separate these networks,
the default settings of the HP GbE2C Ethernet switch will transmit broadcast traffic between the
Administrative/Console network and the external network.
To control the broadcast traffic and to allow separate management policies to be applied to the
Administrative/Console network from the external network, it is possible to create a VLAN for
the Administrative/Console network. The VLAN must have, as its members, the internal ports
