however, you should follow the instructions in this manual to ensure your safety and to prevent
damage to the cluster components.
Before unpacking the racks, perform the following steps:
1.
Ensure that the racks are as close as possible to their final destination, and that enough room
is available to roll the racks off of their pallets.
Note:
HP Rack 10000 Series 42U racks are 2 meters (78.7 inches) tall off the pallet, and 2.2 meters
(85.4 inches) on the pallet. Depending on your site, you might need to remove them from
the pallet before moving them into the computer room. They might not fit through a standard
height door while on their pallets.
2.
Examine the tilt indicator on each package to verify that the racks were not tilted during
shipment.
3.
Inspect the shipping carton for signs of external damage. Report any damage to the local
carrier and to the appropriate HP account representatives.
The sequence of removal of the packaging is illustrated in
to unpack the racks:
1.
Remove the plastic stretch film wrapped around the package. It is easier to remove the film
if you lightly score it with a box cutter or pocket knife.
2.
Cut the plastic straps wrapped around the package. When cutting, be careful that the plastic
straps do not hit your hands or face. Use gloves and protective eye wear.
3.
Remove the top cover.
4.
Remove the fasteners that hold the cardboard front and rear covers together.
5.
Remove the cardboard rear cover from the pallet.
6.
Remove the front cover.
7.
Remove the box that contains the ramps.
8.
If necessary, allow time for the temperature of the devices in the rack to stabilize, as described
in
Section
9.
Remove the plastic bag that surrounds the rack. If you cut the plastic, be careful not to scratch
the rack.
10. When unpacking a SVA (Scalable Visualization Array) cluster, remove the styrofoam
partitions between the servers. The partitions are necessary to minimize vibration during
transit only, and should be removed at the site. Remove the adhesive tape, and then remove
the styrofoam partitions from the rear of the rack.
11. Examine the components in the rack, the front and rear doors, the right and left side panels,
the top panel, and the undercarriage for any apparent damage. Report any problems
immediately.
Retain the shipping container and all packing materials for future use.
After unpacking the racks, and before removing any racks from their pallets, locate the Bill of
Materials (BOM) for the cluster and verify that all of the listed components are present.
