CONFIGURING
USING A COMPUTER
• Select Decode bitstreams in player if you want the 800 DVD/CD
Player to decode bitstreams, such as Dolby Digital and DTS, to PCM on
the specified outputs.
Select the option if you are connecting the output to an external
surround decoder.
Leave the option unselected if you are connecting the output to an 861
via a Meridian multi-channel link, or to Meridian DSP loudspeakers or a
digital preamplifier.
• In the Maximum decoding rate section specify the maximum
decoding rate that the equipment connected to each set of outputs can
accept.
When playing audio at higher rates it will be downsampled to the rate you
have specified on the corresponding outputs.
To specify Meridian High Resolution (MHR)
Meridian High Resolution is a proprietary format using encryption and anti-
copy methods that allows secure transfer of audio streams between
elements of a Meridian-only system for the purpose of playback only. It
provides a secure copyright protection environment and has the very
important benefit of lowering jitter and improving sound quality on all
material.
The Meridian High Resolution options allow you to specify whether
MHR-encoding is used for each of the main digital outputs.
If you are connecting either of the outputs to non-Meridian equipment, or
Meridian equipment that is not MHR compliant, set the option for the
corresponding output to Never .
If you are connecting either of the outputs to a Meridian product that is
MHR compliant, such as the 861 Reference Digital Surround Controller, set
the option for the corresponding output to As needed to take advantage
of MHR.
Note: If you select Never , the 800 will downsample certain copy-protected
discs to 16-bit resolution at either 44.1kHz or 48kHz.
