Blade Care
WARNING: Whenremoving the cuttingblade
for sharpening or replacement,
protect your
hands with a pair of heavy gloves or use a
heavy rag to hold the blade.
Periodicallyinspecttheblade adapterfor cracks,
especiallyif you strikea foreignobject.Replacewhen
necessary.Followthe stepsbelowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectspark plugwire fromspark plug.Turn
moweron its side makingsurethat the air filter and
the carburetorare up.
2. Removethe boltand the bladebell supportwhich
holdthe blade and the bladeadapterto the engine
crankshaft.See Figure4.
3. Removeblade and adapterfrom thecrankshaft.
4. The bladecan be sharpenedwith a file or on a grind=
ing wheel Do notattemptto sharpenthe blade whileit
is still on the mower.
5. Whensharpeningthe blade,followthe originalangle
of grind. Grindeachcuttingedge equallyto keepthe
bladebalanced.
6. Removeblade fromthe adapterfor testingbalance.
7. Balancethe bladeon a roundshaftscrewdriver to
check. Removemetalfrom the heavyside untilit
balancesevenly.
WARNING: An unbalanced blade will cause
excessive vibration when rotating at high
speeds. It may cause damage to mower, and
could break causing personal injury.
8. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftand the inner surface
of the bladeadapterwith lightoil Sfidethe blade
adapterontotheengine crankshaft.
9. Placethe blade on the adaptersuch that the side
of the blademarked"Bottom"(or with partnumber)
facesthe groundwhenthe moweris in the operating
position.Makesurethat the blade is alignedand
seatedon theblade adapterflanges.
10.Placeblade bell supporton theblade.Align notches
on the bladebell support with smallholesin blade.
11.Replacehexbolt and tightenhex boltto torque: 450
in. Ibs.rain.,600 in. Ibs.max.
Toensuresafe operationof yourmower,periodically
checkthe blade boltfor correcttorque.
Replacing
Rear Flap
1. To removerear flap,cut off theflat end of thewire rod
which securesit to thedeck. See Figure5.
2. Attachthe newflap and new rodto deck,bendingthe
endsof the newrod overto secureto deck.
Off-Season
Storage
The followingstepsshouldbe takento prepareyour
lawnmowerfor storage.
1. Cleanand lubricatemowerthoroughlyas described
in the lubricationinstructions.

2. Wedo not recommend the useof a pressurewasher

or garden hoseto cleanyourunit.
3. Referto engine manualfor correctengine
storageinstructions.
4. Coat mower'scuttingblade with chassisgreaseto
preventrusting.

5. Storemowerin a dry, dean area.Do not storenext
to corrosivematerials,suchas fertilizer.
When storinganytype of powerequipmentin a poorly
ventilatedor metalstorageshed, careshouldbe taken
to rust=proof t he equipment.Usinga lightoil or silicone,
coat theequipment,espedally cablesand all moving
parts of yourlawnmowerbeforestorage.
