TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
PROBLEM
Will not start
Hard to start
Engine will not turn
over
Engine clicks but will
not start
Loss of power
CAUSE
• Out of fuel.
• Engine not "CHOKED" prop-
erly.
Engine flooded.
Bad spark plug.
Dirty air filter.
Dirty fuel filter.
Water in fuel.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Carburetor out of adjustment.
• Engine valves out of adjust-
ment.
• Dirty air filter.
• Bad spark plug.
• Weak or dead battery.
• Dirty fuel fitter.
• Stale or dirty fuel.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Carburetor out of adjustment.
• Engine valves out of adjust-
ment.
• Clutch/brake pedal not de-
pressed.
• Attachment clutch is engaged.
• Weak or dead battery.
Blown fuse.
• Corroded battery terminals.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Faulty ignition switch.
• Faulty solenoid or starter.
• Faulty operator presence
switch(es).
• Weak or dead battery.
• Corroded battery terminals.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Faulty solenoid or starter.
• Cutting too much grass/too
fast.
• Throttle in "CHOKE" position.

CORRECTION
• Fill fuel tank.
• See "TO START ENGINE" in
Operation section.
• Wait several minutes before at-
tempting to start.
• Replace spark plug.
• Clean/replace air filter.
Replace fuel filter.
Drain fuel tank and carburetor,
refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel filter.
Check all wiring.
See '3-o Adjust Carburetor" in
Service and Adjustments
section.
• Contact an authorized service
center.
• Clean/replace air filter.
• Replace spark plug.
• Recharge or replace battery.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and refill with
fresh gasoline.
• Check all wiring.
• See '3-o Adjust Carburetor" in
Service and Adjustments
section.
• Contact an authorized service
center.
• Depress clutch/brake pedal.
• Disengage attachment clutch.
• Recharge or replace battery.
• Replace fuse.
• Clean battery terminals.

Check/replace ignition switch.
Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
Contact an authorized service
center.
• Recharge or replace battery.
• Clean battery terminals.
• Check all wiring.
• Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
• Set in "Higher Cut" position/re-
duce speed.
• Adjust throttle control.
