  • Page 5 LAWN MOWER Tl_ese accessories were available when this lawn mower was produced. They are also available at most Sears retail outlets and service centers. Most Sears stores can also order repair parts for you, when you provide the model number of your lawn mower.

    Read these instructions and this manual in its entirety OPERATOR before you attempt to assemble or operate your new lawn CONTROL BAR mower. Your new lawn mower has been assembled atthe UPPER HANDLE factory with the exception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes.
  • Page 7 TO CONVERT MOWER Your lawn mower was shipped ready to be used as a MULCHER PLUG mulcher. To convert to bagging or discharging: REAR BAGGING (See Fig, 3A) - Open rear door and remove mulcher plug. Store mulcher plug in a safe place. You can now install grass catcher.

    HOW TO USE YOUR LAWN MOWER ENGINE SPEED (See Fig. 7) The engine speed is controlled by a lever located on the side of the engtne. High (_j.) position is for starting the engine, normal cutting, and better grass bagging. (,qR) oosition isfor light cutting, tdmming and fuel economy.

    GROUND DRIVE THREE SPEEDS (See Fig. 10) Your lawn mower provides three (3) speeds to let you select the speed that suits you best. Speed 1 is for slow, heavy/thick grass cutting or trim- ming. Speed 2 is tor normal grass cutting or trimming. DRIVE SPEED Speed 3 is for light cutting and for ground transport.

    TO START ENGINE To start a cold engine, push primer five (5) times before trying to start. Use a firm push. This step is not usually necessary when starting an engine which has already run for a few minutes. • Push engine speed control lever to high (_1_) position.

    LAWN MOWER BLADE CRANK- ADAPTER SHAFT Always observe safety rules when performing any mamte- KEYWAY RanGe. TIRES Keep tires free of gasoline, oi!, or insect control chemi- BLADE cals which can harm rubber. Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that may cause tire damage.

    CUSTOMER RESPONSiBiLiTiES ENGINE DRIVE WHEELS (See Fig. !5) LUBRiCATiON Check rear drive wheels each time you mow to be sure they move freely. The wheels not turning freely means trash, Use only high quality detergent oi! r_ed with API service grass cuttings, etc., may be inside the drive wheel and dust classification SF or SG.

    CLEANING AIRFILTER COVER IMPORTANT: BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE BUILT-UP GRASS TRASH. CLEAN UNDERSIDE OF MOWER HOUSING AFTER EACH USE. HINGE PAPER • Turn lawn mower on its side. Make sure air filter and COVER FILTER SCREW carburetor are up. Clean the underside of your lawn mower by scraping to remove build-up of grass and FIG.
