Chapter 1 Product Overview

1.1 Introduction

3Com Router 3000 ADSL2+ Family are ADSL access routers designed for small office home office
(SOHO) subscribers. They provide an uplink ADSL2+ interface and four downlink layer 2 (L2)
switched 10/100BASE-T Ethernet interfaces that can be isolated.
The Router 3000 ADSL2+ Family provides an ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ interface in the uplink
direction to connect to the central office device through a subscriber line, thus providing broadband
access to the Internet. In this series, the Router 3041 provides ISDN backup. When the
ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ link fails, the ISDN interface can take over to ensure ongoing
communications. In the downlink direction, the Router 3040 provides four 10/100BASE-TX layer 2
(L2) Ethernet ports which can be isolated via VLAN configuration.
The interfaces provided by the Router 3000 ADSL2+ are compliant with international standards and
can work with the products of other vendors at all layers of the network. This helps to protect your
existing investment to the maximum.
