Working inside the server with the power on Attention: Static electricity that is released to internal server components when the server is powered-on might cause the server to halt, which might result in the loss of data. To avoid this potential problem, always use an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system when you work inside the server with the power on.

Installing a hot-swap hard disk drive The 3.5-inch drive hot-swap server models support either two SAS 3.5-inch hard disk drives or two SATA 3.5-inch hard disk drives. The 2.5-inch drive hot-swap server models support four 2.5-inch SAS hard disk drives 1 . The installation procedure is the same for any of these drives.
Installing a new CD or DVD drive The server comes with a CD or CD/DVD drive installed. You can remove the drive and install a different one. See http://www.lenovo.com/thinkserver for a list of CD or CD/DVD drives you can use with the server.
The server comes with a PCI Express riser-card assembly installed. You can remove the assembly and install an optional PCI-X assembly. See http://www.lenovo.com/thinkserver for a list of riser-card assemblies you can install in the server. The PCI-X riser-card assembly provides one PCI-X expansion slot on the riser card.

Run the diagnostic programs to get more information about error codes that occur. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual , available on the Lenovo Support Web site, for instructions. To clear the BMC system-event log, select Clear BMC SELs and confirm the selection.
Select this choice to view the system-error messages from the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine. To clear the RSA II event/error log, select Clear RSA II Logs and confirm the selection. The RSA II event/error log is limited in size. When the log is full, new entries will overwrite the oldest entries.
