DVD player unit
Symptom
Playback will not start even after a title is se-
lected.
The parental level cannot be changed.
The voice or subtitle language selected in the
initial setting is not played.
Menu screen messages are not shown in the
desired language.
A VCD cannot be played using menus.
"THE PLAYER IS LOCKED" will be displayed
on the TV screen (the mark on the display
of the main unit will be lit), and disk tray open-
ing/closing operation will not be accepted.

Remote control unit

Symptom
Remote control operation is not possible.
Inhibition icon
Symptom
The inhibition icon is displayed
and remote control is not pos-
sible.
Cause
÷ A viewing restriction (PARENTAL) has been
set for the disc.
÷ You have forgotten the password.
÷ The DVD disc being played does not contain
the recording of the selected voice or subtitle
language.
÷ The initial playback language is specified by
the DVD disc.
÷ The DVD specifications provide for selection
at the menu screen.
÷ The menu language function (MENU) is not
set to desired language.
÷ The VCD disc being played is not compatible
with P.B.C.
÷ Operation is prohibited.
Cause
÷ Batteries are exhausted.
÷ The remote control is too far away from the
system, the controlling angle is deviated or
there is an obstacle in between.
Cause
÷ Playback is restricted intentionally by the
software producer.

Remedy
÷ Check the viewing restriction level (PA-
RENTAL) setting.
÷ Set the initial setup to the factory setup
with the following procedure.
1 Press the MENU key on the remote to
enter SETUP MENU.
2 Select the PREFERENCE, then press
the ENTER key.
3 Select DEFAULTS, press the Cursor
right (3) key to select RESET.
4 Press the numeric keys as shown below.
Press 1, 3, 9, 7, then press
the ENTER key.
The password set at the time of shipping
from the factory is "0000".
÷ Use a DVD disc containing the recording of
the selected voice or subtitle language.
÷ Press SUBTITLE or the AUDIO key on the
remote and select the language.
÷ Select at the menu screen of the disc.
÷ Select disc menu language.
÷ Menu playback is available only with VCD
discs recorded with P.B.C.
÷ Press the MENU key of the remote control
for several seconds while holding the stop
(7) key on the main unit pressed.
"THE PLAYER IS UNLOCKED" will be dis-
played (the mark will not be lit, and op-
eration will become possible.
Remedy
÷ Replace with new batteries.
÷ Operate the unit inside the remote control-
lable range.
Remedy
÷ The operation is inhibited. Please try an-
other operation.
