    NTRODUCTION Welcome to the ECHO family. This ECHO product was designed and manufactured to provide long life and on-the-job dependability. Read and understand this manual and the SAFETY MANUAL you found in the same package. You will find both easy to use and full of helpful operating tips and SAFETY messages.

    Locate these safety decals on your unit. Make sure the decal is legible and that you understand and follow the instructions on it. If a decal cannot be read, a new one can be ordered from your ECHO dealer. See PARTS ORDERING instructions for specific information.

    WARNING DANGER Hearing Protection ECHO recommends wearing hearing protection whenever unit is used. Proper Clothing Wear snug fitting, durable protective clothing; chain saw safety pants or chaps are recommended. • Pants should have long legs, shirts with long sleeves.

    EQUIPMENT Serious injury may result from the use of non-approved guide bar and saw chain combinations. ECHO, INC. will not be responsible for the failure of cutting devices or accessories which have not been tested and approved by ECHO for use with this unit.

    SAFE OPERATION WARNING All overhead electrical conductors and communications wires can have electricity flow with high voltages. Never touch wires directly or indirectly when pruning, otherwise serious injury or death may result. WARNING Do not operate this product indoors or in inadequately ventilated areas.

    Due to packaging restriction the ECHO product you have purchased requires some assembly. After opening the carton, check for damage. Immediately notify your retailer or ECHO Dealer of damaged or missing parts. Use the contents list to check for missing parts.

    SSEMBLY Tools Required: 10x19mm (13/32x3/4in) T-wrench, 3 & 4 mm Hex Wrench Parts Required: Power Head, Drive Shaft Assembly, Cutting Attachment DRIVE SHAFT POWER HEAD Loosen bolt (A). Match square socket in engine shaft with square power transmis- sion shaft (B) and slide together until engine rests against the machine surface of lower drive shaft coupler (C).

    Check throttle for freedom of movement and that wide open throttle / low idle extremes are adjusted properly. If adjustment cannot be achieved with adjusting nuts, consult with your Echo Dealer for correct adjustment procedure. Tighten nut (A). Connect 2 ignition leads from throttle cable tubing to 2 ignition leads (C) and (D) on engine.

    SAW CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTMENT WARNING Always disconnect spark plug wire before servicing cutting attachment. Wear gloves when handling saw chain, otherwise serious personal injury may result. To Adjust Saw Chain Tension. Loosen two (2) 10 mm (13/32 in.) guide bar nuts (A) located on cutting attachment.

    IMPORTANT Echo premium Power Blend Universal 2-Stroke Oil may be mixed at 50:1 ratio for application in all Echo engines sold in the past regardless of ratio specified in those manuals. Mixing Instructions Fill an approved fuel container with half of the required amount of gasoline.

    LUBRICATING THE GUIDE BAR AND SAW CHAIN Automatic Oiling System Wipe debris from around oil fill cap. Remove oil fill cap and fill reservoir with a quality, low viscosity guide bar and saw chain oil. NOTE The discharge volume of the automatic oiler is preset to deliver 3 to 4 cc/min.

    PERATION STARTING COLD ENGINE WARNING The attachment will operate immediately when the engine starts and could result in loss of control and possible serious injury. Keep movable parts of the attachment off the ground and away from objects that could become entangled or thrown. Stop Switch Move stop switch button (A) forward away from the STOP position.

    The attachment should not move at idle, otherwise serious personal injury may result. NOTE If attachment moves, readjust carburetor according to “Carburetor Adjustment” instructions in this manual or see your ECHO Dealer. Stop Switch. Move Stop Switch button (A) forward away from the STOP position.

    WARNING If engine does not stop when stop switch is moved to STOP position, close choke - COLD START position - to stall engine. Have your ECHO dealer repair stop switch before using pruner again. PRUNING TECHNIQUES The Power Pruner is designed for light to medium trimming of limbs and branches up to 203 mm (8 in.) in diameter.

    ECHO Service Dealer for maintenance. To help you decide whether you want to DO-IT-YOURSELF or have the ECHO Dealer do it, each maintenance task has been graded. If the task is not listed see your ECHO Dealer for repairs.

    AIR FILTER Level 1. Tools required: Cleaning brush 25 or 50 mm (1 or 2 in.) Parts required: 90030 REPOWER Close choke (Cold Start Position [ entering the carburetor throat when the air filter is removed. Brush accumulated dirt from the air cleaner area. Remove the air cleaner cover.

    SPARK PLUG Level 2. Tools required: 10x19mm (13/32x3/4in) T-wrench, Feeler gauge, Soft metal brush Parts Required: Spark Plug, NGK BPMR-8Y P/N A42500000 Remove spark plug and check for fouling, worn and rounded center electrode. Clean the plug or replace with a new one. DO NOT sand blast to clean.

    Remove spark plug lead. Remove two (2) muffler cover screws and muffler cover (A). Remove screw and arm rest (B). Remove engine cover (C). IMPORTANT DO NOT use a metal scraper to remove dirt from the cylinder fins. Use brush to remove dirt from the cylinder fins. Remove grass and leaves from the grid between the recoil starter and fuel tank.

    The cylinder exhaust port must be inspected and cleaned of excess carbon every 3 months or 90 hours of operation in order to maintain this engine within the emissions durability period. ECHO strongly recommends that you return your unit to your ECHO dealer for this important maintenance service. CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT...

    NOTE Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compli- ance with emission regulations. This carburetor does not have acceleration and high speed adjustment needles. Check idle speed and reset if necessary. If a tachometer is avail- able, idle speed screw (A) should be set to the specifications found on page 10 "Specifications"...

    FILING SAW CHAIN Level 3. Tools required: 4.5 mm round File P/N 89751001130, Flat File P/N 89751100230, Depth Gauge P/N 89751400232. IMPORTANT Dull or damaged cutters will result in poor cutting performance, increased vibration and premature saw chain failure. WARNING Always stop engine and disconnect spark plug wire before servicing guide bar and saw chain.
