Quick Start Guide
This guide describes basic installation of the AirConnect
and is intended for users familiar with PC Card and driver installation for
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows Millennium Edition
(Windows Me).
For more detailed installation procedures and for installation under
Windows NT 4.0 and Windows CE, refer to the AirConnect Wireless PC Card
User Guide.
Refer to "Installing the Documentation" on page 4 of this quick start guide
for information on setting up the online documentation.
This guide describes how to set up your wireless PC Card in infrastructure
mode (networking using wireless clients and access points). Infrastructure
mode requires that at least one access point be installed in your service area.
You must set the Wireless LAN Service Area of your wireless client to that of
the access point you will be using.
To use your wireless PC Card in ad hoc mode (networking between wireless
clients only), no access point is required. Refer to the AirConnect Wireless PC
Card User Guide for information.
Installing Under Windows 98, Windows 2000, and
Windows Me
Before installing the driver, you will need a copy of the operating system
installation media, usually a CD supplied with your computer or operating
system.
On Windows 98 systems, the installation files are sometimes archived on the
hard disk in C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS.
CAUTION: Installation under Windows 98 may result in a fatal error caused
by the UHCD.SYS file in the Windows 98 operating system. To avoid this
problem, you should update the UHCD.SYS file from v4.10.1998 to
v4.10.2000. This update is available from the following Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/
WURecommended/systemupdata/Default.asp
The final Windows 98 installation screen may take 30-60 seconds to appear.
Do not interrupt the installation if the PC appears to be taking too much
time to complete the installation.
On Windows 2000 systems, you may be prompted to load operating system
files from the Windows 2000 installation CD.
You will also need the Installation CD supplied with your AirConnect
wireless PC Card. The Setup program installs configuration utilities in the
Network application in the Control Panel.
