8.2 Electronic devices

Some electronic devices are not adequately shielded from external RF energy.
8.2.1 Pacemaker
Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 6in (20cm) should be
maintained between a wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with
the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research by and
recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. To minimize the potential interference,
persons with pacemakers should do as below:
Always keep the device more than 6 in (20 cm) from their pacemaker when the device is
switched on.
Not carry the device in a breast pocket.
Hold the device to the ear opposite the pacemaker.
If you have any reason to suspect that interference is taking place, switch off your device
immediately.
