Setting power caps for servers

Administrators can set individual power caps for servers using iLO 2 or Insight Power Manager (IPM).
Using IPM, administrators can also set power caps for groups of ProLiant ML and DL servers and for
groups of enclosures. For individual enclosures, administrators can set power caps using the Onboard
Administrator (OA) or IPM. Power caps are set in exactly the same manner on servers supporting
Dynamic Power Capping as those supporting basic Power Capping. Servers supporting Dynamic
Power Capping simply enforce the cap using the faster power management architecture.

Setting a power cap for a single server

Administrators can set a power cap for an individual server or server blade through iLO 2 or through
IPM. In the iLO 2 browser-based interface, Power Capping Settings is located underneath the Power
Management tab in the Settings subsection. The iLO 2 Power Management Settings screen also
displays whether or not the server supports Dynamic Power Capping. Figure 5 shows a power cap
being set for an HP BladeSystem server.
