Setting the FlexiZone to suit your
hand
The FlexiZone controller can be used equally well
with the right or left hand.
Normally, pressing on the upper part of the
FlexiZone controller moves the frame directly
upward, pressing on the lower part moves it directly
downwards, and so on. However, the directions the
controller indicates can be shifted so that it works
naturally with the thumb.

1. Turn the program selector to a
recording program and open the
STANDBY cover.
2. Open the camera menu and point the
arrow at FLEXIZONE CONT.
3. Select the setting you want, and close
the menu.
• The arrow in the viewfinder indicates the angle
of the "up" direction.
Note:
• The camera remembers this setting until you set
it again.
Focusing
The camera can focus automatically. All you have
to do is point it, and whatever is in the centre of the
viewfinder will usually be in sharp focus.
It also has two functions which give you more
control over focusing.
FlexiZone AF
FlexiZone AF makes autofocus much more
powerful. Using the FlexiZone controller, you can
select any object that appears in the viewfinder,
and the camera will bring it into focus. Choose the
FlexiZone Recording program when you want to
use FlexiZone AF.
FlexiZone AF is useful in the following situations:
When your main subject is not in
the centre of the viewfinder
When you want to shoot a
moving subject
It also makes it easy to use
"focus shift" techniques. You can
direct the viewer's attention by
focusing first on one part of the
scene, and then on another.
1. Turn the program selector to o.
• The FlexiZone Control frame appears in the
viewfinder.
2. Use the FlexiZone controller to move the
frame over the subject.
• The controller can be moved in any direction.
Press it repeatedly to move the frame little by
little. Press and hold to move the frame quickly.
• The camera adjusts the focus to suit the area
inside the frame.
